This holiday was spoilt from first day by lack of basics . The location was a bit hard to find as driveway has no cottage sign up and driveway looks as though it leads to someone's private house. Arrival day put casserole in oven when it was time to remove found no ovenglove no tea towels, no hand towel , no kitchen roll and no dishcloth. Tried to remove dish with my own face flannel and burnt hand. This was a painfull burn and I was in pain for two days. I rang a contact number and spoke to young woman and asked for missing things. She brought some of the missing things ,only when she had gone did I notice no tea towels but I decided to make do with a hand towel.Be aware that there is no freezer compartment in fridge to put any meat ect in,also there is noise from boiler going on and of all night. The bed mattress is only inches bigger than a double bed ,set in a wooden frame which catches your leg when getting in and out of bed. The bathroom has a really high bath ,I am 80 years old and found it difficult to get in,the shower is in bath.Strangley the toilet was very low like a child's hight. There was no bathmat so one steps out on cold tiles dripping wet. The bathroom is a good size but there is no hooks or a chair ,so only place for cloths is floor.
This is a honest review so these are the positives. The cottage was very clean ,it has nice views, and it was lovely and warm also it was a really quiet location.
When the young woman saw my burnt hand she said owner was away that day but would come to see us next day.We was there 7 days never saw owner.
Was not very caring about clients comfort.
Beautiful cottage with stunning views, well equipped! Please note there are no curtains in the cottage, so if you don't like the sun in the mornings it could annoy you! The bathroom is amazing but the bath is very high with a shower in it, not really suitable for anyone who struggles to lift their legs. Our view over the beautiful countryside was slightly spoiled by 3 cars that were parked outside our patio all week. Didn't see the owners all week, not even a little welcome note (some people in the past have had welcome baskets, but assume this has stopped) the cottage was just left open for us. No inventory either. Still a beautiful place and a very comfy bed. We would come again
We stayed in the Lodge over Christmas.
The layout has been well thought out and has everything that we wanted for the stay, we were glad to see that the Lodge has a bath as it is not mentioned on Sykes Cottages, who we booked through.
The Lodge is in an excellent location and has wonderful views of the valley, even from indoors, with the blinds open.
The weather was as wet and windy as this Christmas has been and the Lodge kept us warm and cosy, we were not aware, when inside that there was a raging gale blowing outside.
On Christmas day we had a nice walk down into Wylam and along the Tyne for a short distance, and followed that up with a walk along the wall from Steel Rigg on Boxing day.
We were extremely satisfied and would consider the Lodge again if were are staying in the area.
