“ultra romantic”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

I am so glad we stayed here and took the tours around the area with the staff, I strongly reccomend it to any type of traveler! The rooms were very spacious and romantic (becautiful and simple decorations and stone walls and gorgeous views), the staff was incredibly kind (offering plates of fruit and treats in the evenings, coffees and teas whenever they saw us, and always friendly and smiling!), and the 1st floor lounge always had a warm fireplace with nice chess games and a TV in another room with very comfortable seating and a bar.
We also took the caves/chimneys/etc. tours with the staff and they were perfect - great sense of humour and knowledge of the area - everything was easy and fun!
They also went out of their way to take care fo us, helping us with confusing flight cancellations, booking our bus to our next location, and even giving us a surprise bottle of wine from the winery we visited when we left!
It was a treat to stay here and we definitely hope to do it again!

the venue was wonderful - a courtyarded mansion with a wall around it, in amongst the old houses many of which are still occupied by families and their livestock. Our room was in the mansion - I didn't see the caves. The bathroom was a boxed off segment of our very large bedroom, very light and airy. I wouldn't recommend the hotel for someone with mobility problems, though - the stairs to our room were steep and of uneven depth - for one I had to haul myself up by the bannister (I am short legged!). The buffet dinner was acceptable, but not special, and mostly cold. The breakfast was poor by Western European standards. No real coffee and no butter, There were though a lot of Turkish dishes to try at breakfast.

Perfect place to stay for a visit to Ihlara valley and Guzelyurt Monastery. Our room had a view out over a lovely valley. We sat out after dinner and watched the moon rise with owls and frogs calling. The weather was perfect for sleeping, but during the day the room was very warm, and since it was, in essence, a cave, there wasnt much one could do about ventilating the room.
The food was good, and all the guests eat together family style in a large room. The dining room area was very crowded, but had a friendly atmosphere and live music. We had a wonderful stay over all.

I agree with all the positive things others have written. What I like especially, in addition to those things, is that you feel a part of the town. It's not a hotel separated from others. When I walk to/from my room on stone paths, I see local children playing and perhaps bread being baked for locals in a stone oven.

My room has a wonderful arched stone ceiling and a view of mountains from two windows. The dinners feature a buffet of authentic Turkish food. The staff is friendly and helpful. Yesterday after dinner the manager surprised me by bringing a plate of fresh fruit to my room! This is really one of the most enjoyable places I have stayed, and I like it more than some of the more upscale or boutique places.

One thing to be careful about in summer is to get a cool room. Mine would be much too hot, I think (but it's spring now and not hot). No fan or a/c. (A fan would be really a good idea.)

I see tour groups using this as a base and going to Goreme, etc. But I don't think that's a great idea although driving is very easy if you have your own car (good roads, few other cars). It's about a 90 minute drive. There are plenty of places to stay near but not in Goreme where you can get away from the touristy character; e.g., Mustafapasha, a small town just south of Urgup. I am using Guzelyert mainly as a base for walking in the Ihlara Valley, which is just a few miles/kilometers away.

Room Tip: If it's summer, be careful to get a room that's not too hot.

I wanted to go somewhere less touristy than Goreme, and the little village of Guzelyurt on the outskirts of Kapadokya was perfect. Got a really good deal on booking.com for this hotel. It is actually the ruins of a 500 or so years old Greek city. Our room was inside a cave, yet nicely furnished.

The receptionist, Ayse, spoke excellent English and was very helpful and accommodating. The dinner buffets at the hotel were a good spread - great value for money with plenty of vegetarian food. The breakfast was nothing to write home about though.

There is Wifi connectivity only in the reception area which was a low, but the lovely room and the terrace overlooking the cave cities more than made up for it. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: We opted for the most basic room and it turned out to be great. Freeze your dates and go for the non...

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel, which is nice and peacefull. The staff is extremely helpfull and the place is special.
The problem of this hotel is the location: if you want to visit the main interesting sites of Cappadocia this is not the best place, since the distance between Gureme and the hotel is about 80 km. If you look for Ihlara, it is great.
You can of course drive from the hotel to Gureme, but if you want to fly with the Ballon you should expect to leave the hotel at 4:30 in the morning to be on time for the departure of the ballon.
The rooms are very nice, but the bathroom is pretty poor. WIth a bit of attention and decoration the hotel can improve it (curains, different and improved sanitary tools etc.).

The breakfast and dinner - both buffet- were nice. Not very rich but nice. .
