“Lovely cottage with a beautiful garden in a great location”
Reviewed April 26, 2017 for a stay in April 2017

We had a great weekend in this lovely little cottage to celebrate my birthday. The hosts were welcoming and even left us some local cider, homemade biscuits and chocolates which were delicious. The cottage itself was nicely decorated, with wild flowers in several of the rooms, and had all the amenities needed for cooking etc. The garden is a lovely space for sitting outdoors with nice views, BBQ, breakfast etc. The cottage was a perfect base for us to explore the local area, with lots of really enjoyable walks nearby. We would particularly recommend May Hill and Capler Circular Walk. We would also like to thank the owners for their recommendation of The Moody Cow for an evening meal, which was excellent.

“perfect getaway”
Reviewed October 1, 2016 for a stay in September 2016

A lovely little spot in beautiful surroundings. William and Joan were perfect hosts, offering just the right amount of attention. We received a warm welcome including locally produced and homemade treats, and were shown all aspects of the barn on our arrival. After this we were left to enjoy our stay, safe in the knowledge our hosts were just next door if needed. However we wanted for nothing as there was a great supply of information leaflets (surrounding attractions, restaurants and background knowledge of the locality) and a folder full of local walks carefully compiled (highly recommend the Goldmine Walk!). In addition the Barn is well equipped, warm and comfortable. The garden provided a wonderful setting with stunning views of the valley and we were visited by the two resident cats once or twice. The Barn is perfectly sited just a few winding lanes from the A40, so ideal for visiting local attractions or venturing a little further afield. Can't recommend highly enough!

This is a georgeous, well laid out barn with beautiful views of the rolling countryside to the rear. Perfectly located for great walks and exploring the local villages. Maps, menus and history information is all available. Very comfortable and would definitely visit again.

“Couldn't help but unwind in a beautiful setting; lovely and welcoming - idyllic.”
Reviewed January 23, 2016 for a stay in January 2016

Due to some car troubles we ended up getting to Hook's Barn much later than agreed but William was there to greet us with flashlight and a smile - thank you for being kindly and accomodating. As soon as we arrived we relaxed. What followed was two beautiful days in the Wye Valley with the first of our walks a few hundred metres down the road; Joyce's walk was excellent. Hook's is beautiful - well-kept and superbly finished - and we felt welcome from the off with wonderful views for company. There were also some lovely flapjacks and cider on arrival and the best crockery i've dined from! I'd happily return and recommend Hook's for those who want to get away and relax in comfort.

“Great stay, Warm Welcome, We'll be back!”
Reviewed December 17, 2015 for a stay in December 2015

Well what a lovely place to stay. It is a small space but the layout has been well thought out and whilst it has the cosy feel, there is plenty of room to spread out. It is very tastefully decorated and remained warm even despite the heating being off during the day (by choice) and it being December!

We were warmly greeted by William as well as given a welcome gift of flapjack (yum!) and a bottle of cider each. William showed us the ropes then left us to settle in. Looking around the barn at the various artwork on display,. he was more than happy to pop round and answer our questions when I text him – we were intrigued by The Great Bear art and also the brilliant photos in the living area of Singers on stage. Ask him!

We visited Ross En Wye on of the days to do some Christmas shopping (try the Mail Rooms Wetherspoons for a lunch – the best fish & chip lunch we have had in a long time, all for £15 for 2 portions, curry sauce, and a wine and an ale!) as well as an afternoon at Symonds Yat which is a lovely place of scenery. Being December we were a little restricted on what and where we could go, so hope to return one summer and make use of the bikes that are available for use!

No complaints other than lack of a draiing board for after washing pots which says a lot when that is the only negative! Well equipped, towels provided, great view, comfy bed, hot shower, just perfect! Highly recommended for a cosy getaway!

hi Louise. Glad you had a good time and thanks for the grand review. Just to say to future guests - there is a draining board - its about 40 X 50cms square - so not the biggest in the world, but it does exist.

“Great base for exploring by bike”
Reviewed October 27, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Warm welcome with tour, flapjack and local cider. Warm, clean, quiet, comfy and well equipped place. Free wifi and great garden. Lovely view from patio of autumn colours of the trees. Just right for a long weekend cycling on the Forest of Dean trails and local quiet lanes. Terrain not too demanding for those pedal pushers amongst us who aren't quite as fit (or young) as they used to be.
