Beautiful garden & lovely view across the valley but let down by the minimalist kitchen & lack of housekeeping. Kitchen had fridge, coffee machine but no kettle & electric hob with 1 ring & 1 small 3” diameter ring for a coffee boiler. There is a connection to a local Taverna, where you have to pay the balance the first night (& feel obliged to eat) so I imagine that is the reason behind the lack of facilities.

The Taverna opens at 5 but check in is from 2 so you have to phone the number on the door to arrange access, not ideal on a foreign phone! We rang to be told “Number 2, key is in the door” after several minutes wandering round we found somebody and asked where No 2 was & were taken through what had looked like a locked door & up the stairs. Again this was the only place without somebody on site to meet you & show you to your room. No local information (apart from the Taverna) & no personal contact.

We stayed 3 nights & despite the fact all toilet paper has to be placed in a bin (as is common all over Crete) the bin was never emptied despite it being high summer & no replacement liners (we coped by finding a skip on site & using carrier bags) but not acceptable. Everywhere else we stayed (4 other places) cleaned & carried this activity out daily.

Bed was comfortable but the pillows resembled a couple of folded sheets they were so thin. We used the bed cover & the 4 scatter cushions instead as there was nobody on site to ask & we didn’t feel inclined to go back to the Taverna for another mediocre meal.

Set in really nice and well looked after gardens, Sigelakis studios are really good value. Modern from the outside but it has some original character inside. Air conditioning and free WiFi are included. George could do with putting in an electric kettle and a microwave as the only cooking facility is a twin ring electric hob.
Bed is reasonably comfortabe but you should ask for some extra pillows.
Very close to the village and only a few minutes to the Sigelakis Taverna which is where you will find the owner.
Sivas is a wonderful little village with few good tavernas, 2 kafenion, couple of supermarkets and loads of friendly people.

Me and my girlfriend stay for a week at sigelakis studios. The room was clean and very romantic. n the courtyard there were beautiful flowers and trees and there we enjoyed the bright sun. The area has several attractions such as Matala and various monasteries. As for the SEA .. captivating.
We miss the wonderful time we lived there and we thank George Syngelakis for his hospitality.

We were pleasantly surprised with our visit to Sigelakis Studios. The price for the studios was tvery good and I loved it. It is right near Matala, hippies village withe the caves. The sea in South Crete at the Libyan sea was amazing. Rooms were great also! Free wifi. I highly recommend these studios. The owner owns and a traditional tavern with delicious Cretan food.

Lovely, very clean rooms in a wonderful, friendly traditional village. We met Mr. Sigalakis at his taverna and then followed him on his motorcycle to the tasteful rooms. We then spent the afternoon in very nearby Malia swimming the lovely clear waters and climbing into the hauntingly beautiful caves (with a deep spiritual feel--were Roman burial chambers and probably used in pre-history; necessary to overlook some carelessly left soda cans and such). Returning for dinner at Sigalakis' Taverna, Mr. Sigalakis sat down with us and treated us to some Raki. A memorable stay! Diane and Paul

A very classy set of studio apartments adjacent to the small town of Sivas in central Crete near the southern shore of the island. The apartments were designed and built in the last few years specifically for people wanting to stay several days or weeks in this lovely part of Crete within 10 minutes of a number of important archaeological sites, including Phaestos. There are some terrific clean sand beaches, also within 10 to 30 minutes from here.

Our room had stone walls and marble floors, (see photo) built in the traditional manner, but with modern amenities such as a nice small bathroom, large bedroom, large sitting room, and small mini kitchen appropriate for cooking breakfast or preparing light meals. The views out the windows are beautiful, showing off the rural countryside. There were even sheep being tended by a shepherd just outside the low stone wall of the compound (see photo).

Guests are expected to be low-key, well-behaved, and relatively self-sufficient, as there are no office or reception facilities associated with the studios. We knew that the owner, Giorgos Sigelakis, also has a restaurant in the middle of the nearby town of Sivas, so when we arrived and found no one around, we drove over to the restaurant, found Giorgos, and he brought us back and gave us our key. It's all very informal, but what you get is first-rate.

This is a place for people who care about their surroundings; about the quality of the place they're staying. If you are part of a bus tour and are content in a high-rise hotel on some beach somewhere, don't bother coming here. Giorgos has put a lot of love and effort into making his studios really special, so be thankful if you get to go here - it is from another era, when people were still generous and trusting.

Like most establishments in rural Crete, no credit cards are accepted.

The Sigelakis Restaurant in Sivas is also a gem and is 3 minutes away. The food is top-notch and very reasonably priced. It turns out that Giorgios is also the chef and runs the restaurant too! I think I'll review it separately, though.
