The Old Post House
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed August 24, 2012

I stayed at the Old Post House during a "genealogy trip" to Wiltshire. Paulene and Barry made me feel very much at home. Breakfast was excellent - more than I could eat - and my room was beautiful. I spent many hours walking around and exploring the village. After doing some research in Chippenham, I found out my g-g-g-g grandfather Thomas Young was living in the Old Post House in 1807. I really had come home. What a perfect place to stay during my visit to England.

Immaculately presented, great breakfast and good quality rooms. Paulene, our host, was perfect ans made sure we has all we needed.

Well located to explore the local area and good value for money. Recommended to anyone.

Looking for a place to stay around Salisbury, we found the Old Post House online. We absolutely had a lovely stay in this B&B in Great Wishford. This small village looks as though nothing changed the past 50 years. The B&B is situated next to the beautiful old church. Its decoration and everything else in it were carefully put together to create an old English atmosphere. The room, with ensuite bathroom, was clean and cosy. But what really sets the Old Post House apart is its owners, Paulene and Barry. They are really nice people who will proactively think about how you can make the most of your stay and prevent disappointments. For example, Paulene came up with several suggestions for walking routes and informed us early about the local pub not serving food one night. Highly recommended!

We found The Old Post House by chance on our way back home after our holiday. What a find it was! Everything in the house is kept spotlessly clean and our room was lovely, with nice ensuite shower room. The breakfast was one of the best I have ever had whilst away from home and best of all, the owners were most helpful and friendly, with an excellent knowledge of the local area. We would recommend highly to anyone.

A delightful b&b in a picturesque location. Lovely light, bright and spotlessly clean room and en-suite with a surprisingly powerful shower.

The owners Barry and paulene are wonderfully welcoming and warm hosts who provided us with great local information about places we might like to visit in the area .
You can't fail to be set up for the day with their fabulous cooked breakfast made with great quality produce and Barry's poachies are legendary !

On a final note, I've noticed the 'disappointing' comment that has been posted and would like to point out that the 'pets' mentioned are the tiniest tiniest dogs. 'yoda' and 'noodle' are not a nuisance in any way, are not left to run round the house and are kept in a cage at appropriate times (e.g. Breakfast time ) so as not to disturb guests.

Also the extensive number of 'excellent ' reviews rather speaks for itself and for us it was our second stay at the old post house as we enjoyed our visit last year so much !!!

We had a lovely night here in what was the old village Post House. Bright and clear feel to the rooms of this historic building, well decorated and everything we needed for a relaxing stay. A very happy atmosphere and delightful, thoughtful care from the owners. The breakfast was great and we felt welcomed into the rest of the house. Well situated for walks and biking as it is so close to the forest and all the historic places like Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral. Sitting in the warm sun in the garden was...bliss.

We have stayed 3 times at The Old Post Office and love it.

We highly recommend its charm, comfort, warmth and character alongwith its excellent breakfast and good situation. Interesting history is all around as well as delightful people and lovely, lovely walks and views. Great place to relax and be.

We are impressed by the hosts. We think Paulene is unfailingly welcoming and charming as well as professional and careful -privacy is well respected.

We enjoy all 3 small pets and are pleased they are welcome in their own home; it adds to our feeling that we can relax in an unpretentious guest house. The little dogs are not intrusive in fact they are rather elderly and quiet, and while puss likes to be the centre of things (how lovely) is not at all anywhere it should not be!

We are impressed with carefullly and thoughtfully prepared breakfasts and the patient (!) and courteous handing of tourist enquiries and friendly, encouraging directions -often given to difficult and demanding travellers

We have liked all the rooms we have stayed in and their little bathrooms are efficient and cute -great to have them in such an dear old building that probably had not a pipe inside for many a long year! - Nothing lacking and everything beautifully clean and well thought out.

We love the village, and want to live there each time we visit and when we walk up on to the meadow tops in the country side and into the bluebell covered Groveley Wood we think we are near heaven or at least back in one of those children's books we read and felt were just magic.

We give this guest house top marks.

Room Tip: Ask Paulene to recommend one -they are all however, very singular and lovely.
