This Chinese restaurant had been open less than three months when we stumbled on it. Tucked behind the Forge Hammer pub in Lower Lydbrook, you'd be lucky to see its banner. On an 8 day walking holiday, we had eaten in venues of various value/quality from prestigious bistros to inns. What stood out about Hin's was the quality, amount and clean cooking of the food. For example, there were eleven large king prawns (with ginger and spring onions) in a dish one third of the cost of a prawn dish we later ate in an Indian restaurant in Ross-on-Rye which contained only 3 prawns! The steamed broccoli was al dente and of a good colour. It's difficult to put your finger on it but whereas it is sometimes said that all Chinese food/dishes tase the same/have the same gloop on them - these dishes were very distinctive and somehow clean. We really appreciated the food.

We were sorry when the Indian place closed but decided to give the opening night of Hin's a try .We had a lovely meal. The satay chicken skewers were very good .The satay sauce was especially good. We will be back.

This is a great find. It was recommended by our B&B host from Lea House and we certainly haven't been disappointed. We have eaten here on many an occasion - in fact twice in four days on our latest visit to Herefordshire.
Don't be put off by the pubs exterior or the usual gathering of locals outside and in. The pub is very friendly and the locals make you very welcome. Andy the boss always makes you feel welcome and serves some great beers as well!
The food is freshly cooked and is of the highest quality. The nann breads are massive, but light and crisp - just as they should be. The quality of the meat used is excellent, proving that locally sourced is always best.
The chefs are both Indian in origin and not from Bandladesh as most other chefs are in the UK - I think that really shows in the taste and menu selection.
Keep up the good work, we will certainly be back!

We always enjoy our meals here and are never disappointed .The food is always fresh and delicious. The nans are so large you could float down the nearby River Wye on one! I am laughed at as I usually have the same dish. The first time we came I was impressed at the jug of iced tap water had a slice of lemon and lime floating in it .No citrus tonight but lots of ice. When arriving do not be put off by the rather basic pub that fronts the River Spice.Just walk on into River Spice.

It is hard to believe that a first class Indian restaurant like this could be found in a little village on the edge of The Forest of Dean.
The menu is innovative and mercifully free of the usual Dhansak, Bhoona, Vindaloo etc. The food was beautifully spiced and presented. The nan bread were light and delicious.
Front of house was knowledgeable . Altogether the package was pretty well spot on.
We only wish that this restaurant was in Plymouth and not Lydbrook.
If you are not a Forester and you don't know where Lydbrook is, get out your Tom Tom and pay it a visit, you won't be disappointed
