Description: The Twice Brewed is set amongst some of the most breathtaking scenery in England and stands in the shadows of Steel Rigg, without doubt one of the most dramatic parts of Hadrian’s Wall. The Inn is situated on the B6318 (The Military Road) midway between Newcastle Upon Tyne in the East and Carlisle in the West and is close to all the main Roman sites – Vindolanda, Housesteads and The Roman Army Museum. The Inn is on the popular Pennine Way route and welcomes walkers with a drying room and other facilities. We are also on the Hadrians Cycleway (Route 72) and near the Sandstone Way cycle route. We are 4 miles away from Haltwhistle train station and 15 miles away from Hexham train station

A good experience
This restaurant is the only possibility to have dinner in the surroundings. They have a wide range of meat and fish dishes. This was the first place where i saw a special way to be sure that we pay the bill: when ordering you have to hand over your creditcard and you receive a kind of key. When we check out we had to handover the key to finish the payment.

Living local for over 15 years we often visited the 'Twicey' as we call it. Since it had a refurbishment and came under new management a lot of the atmosphere has been lost. You can still get nice food, but the old atmosphere has been lost. Much more catered for tourists staying at the hostel or in their room - locals seem to have abandoned it.

Dear Webbem,

We are sorry you feel this way and have, since the refurbishment in 2015, found that it is impossible to please everyone. The old pub was in desperate need of work and as much as we would've like to retain the dark interior, we decided to open up the pub to make the most of the space and the views - luckily and contrary to your thoughts, the changes have been welcomed by our locals and regulars and we retain and excellent custom from the vast majority of people in the area.

Best wishes,

TB

What a truly sad world we live in when if there is no competition it causes complacency. The Twice Brewed Inn is in a perfect situation where walkers and visitors to Hadrian’s wall go for lodging, sustenance and shelter. It is the only place which offers all this for many miles. All that is provided but at a price and with total indifference. We stayed there and went for dinner. After finishing our main course we sat waiting for at least 15 minutes while the waitresses chatted and laughed together as they reset tables for breakfast the following morning having forgotten their customers!.The couple on the adjacent table had to call a waitress over to order their food. We decided to wait without intervening with a signal to see how long it wuld take for someone to notice us! Not once did our waitress look over to our table to see we had finished or wanted more food. When finally she came over we asked if she thought we were invisible? She murmured something, made no apology and then sent her colleague over with our bill as requested .It was the wrong bill! Again no apology. It is abundantly clear that these girls do not receive a proper training and so the fault lies with the management. We are well travelled throughout the world and have rarely seen a similar situation. This pub in this situation has the potential to be really good...but it is not.

Dear saucon,

We are so sorry to read this and offer our sincere apologies; this is not the norm for us and we strive to provide excellent service for all of our guests and we are sorry we fell short of the mark on this occasion. Indeed training appears to be the issue here, we have taken note and shall ensure all our staff are brought up to speed as soon as we can.

Best wishes,

TB

This isn't a part of the world we were familiar with, but we're so glad that we took a chance on the Twice Brewed Inn for a late Sunday lunch. Three of our party of four opted for the Sunday roast, and agree that it was the best one we have ever had. Helpings were generous, the meat lean and tender and as for the veg - perfect! Added to that the prompt service and friendly and attentive staff and it was a very pleasant experience. If we're ever up near the Roman Wall again I'm sure the kids won't let me drive past!

Dear John B,

Wow! Praise indeed - and thank you so much. So glad to hear you enjoyed your meal and hope to see you again soon - we're a great place for Winter refuge as well, the weather can be quite unforgiving up here in the Winter but our fires help to warm chilled fingers and faces!

Best wishes,
