“Wonderful Luxury Accommodation in the Heart of Hadrians Wall Country”

Easily accessed and with excellent nearby walks or fast transport links to the coast, Newcastle and Cumbria. This wonderful, secluded cottage really does have something for everyone. The accommodation is immaculately maintained and furnished to a very high standard and the friendly owners are nearby to provide a warm welcome.

Cottage is thoughtfully equipped to provide all the comforts and entertainment required for either an all-adult party or families with children. As the visitor book will testify, many return for a repeat stay and I can easily see why.

“Lovely Cottage/Ideal Location”

This was our second stay at Codley Gate - the first time was a few years ago and we loved it then. Right on the doorstep of Vindolanda Roman Fort (in my opinion the best attraction in the whole area) and surrounded by lovely countryside.
The house is beautiful - managing to keep its old charm & character while incorporating mod-cons & luxuries. Our 2 year old loved the outside space - especially the chickens. The kitchen & entertainment facilities are just what you need and the furnishings are hhigh quality.
The weather hit us hard a couple of times during our stay, but the owners did a great job at making sure we were happy and that everything was OK. We'll definitely be staying again.

“Superb cottage, fantastic location!”

I stayed with my wife and daughter. There was certainly easy room for 6 with a good sized en-suite in each bedroom. Top notch cottage backed up with excellent owners.

Great communication and happy to find a way to fence in the chickens which otherwise are very free-range (my 12 year old daughter is not a fan!). Luxury cottage with every possible feature, including 3 good sized bedrooms (one on ground floor), a lovely kitchen/dining room, nice longe with wood burning stove, and three very comprehensive files on the cottage, where to go for food or local sights, and information on many local walks. The cottage is right next to Vindolanda (old site of many past Roman forts, that you can watch being excavated when you visit), but despite this there is no noise or disruption from there whatsoever, and it is a facinating place to visit.

All along this route (serviced by excellent roads) are stacks of places to visit. A trip further north east along the coast gives spectacular white sandy beaches, albeit a little wind-swept. Lots of lovely towns to visit (Hexham and Alnwick for example) and the stunning Blanchland (an amazing village).

Lovely flowers, a bottle of wine and some super-local eggs on arrival a nice touch, and any suggestions on places to go are just a quick question to Neil and Claire away.

We will be going back, as have many of the people who have written in the guest book, which has been running for three years and does not have a negative comment in it. Can't say fairer than that. Go on. Give your self a treat. Stay here a week (or more) and you won't regret it.

“Wonderful!”

We stayed here last year, originally we planned it as a Christmas shopping trip. With the surprise arrival of our youngest daughter, it turned into a family trip.
Personally I was apprehensive at the prospect of going with such a young baby (she was only around 3-4 weeks old at the time). But it was wonderful despite the blustery, rainy weather.
The children ((ages 13, 10, 5, 3 & baby) LOVED it. Especially the chickens who came to say hello.
The atmosphere at Codley Gate simply inspires relaxation. I have never in my life ever spent a family holiday anywhere that has had me this relaxed. Considering I am a mum of 5, this is no small feat!
We can't offer any advice on what to do in the area. As the weather was really bad, and we generally just stayed inside. The children enjoyed the atmosphere as much as we did. There are DVD's and games to play. The kitchen is wonderful for family gatherings and we all snuggled up on the sofa of an evening to watch Box of Delights (which we took with us). My 5year old keeps asking to go back to 'the house'. Would definately reccomend this to anyone.

“Codley Gate cottage has excellent facilities, an ideal location with delightful owners.”

All six wobbly walkers from Leicester had an excellent holiday at Codley Gate cottage. The owners Claire and Neil were very helpful and even provided a spare fridge freezer when the state of art Samsung failed to maintain its temperature. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. The cottage is in an ideal location for walking the roman wall from the Roman Fort called Housesteads to Once brewed and the Twice brewed Inn for local beers and good food. We also enjoyed a days walk in the National Trust site at Allen Banks and Staward Gorge with spectacular gorge and river scenery this valley forms the largest area of ancient woodland in the county. We loved the farm hens waiting by the kitchen door to be fed and the Vindolanda writing tablets are amazing to see and experience in the archaeological site.
