“Amazing hotel, just a few small problems.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2013

We stayed at The Twelve at the end of August for 4 nights in a family suite. Two adults and two small children. We have stayed here before just over 1 year ago and so obviously we thought it good enough for a return visit. Our room was a double room with a separate living area with two sofas which can be used as single beds. The living area also has a small kitchen area with a sink, microwave and fridge. The room is well appointed and generally well kept. Housekeeping was not perfect, the coffee machine was never cleaned during our stay, a large dead spider on the window sill was still there after the room was cleaned and on our first day no face cloths had been left in the room (only an issue as they were standard the other days).

Apart from those housekeeping issues, the staff are very friendly and helpful. They all seemed to genuinely enjoy interacting with our 3 and 1 year olds. The hotel's trump card is its food. It has an excellent fine dining restaurant and a very good bar bistro which has a dedicated pizza kitchen attached. Children are accommodated in both but are really only suited to the bistro. There is also an incredible selection of wines and beers. On top of all this they also have an in house bakery so breakfast is excellent.

The location is in a small village, there is little to do but plenty of dining options beyond the hotel and a supermarket all within walking distance. If you are travelling with a car however you are positioned between Galway (10 min) and Salthill beach and promenade (5 min) on one side and Connemara, the Aran Islands and the Atlantic Coast on the other.

Overall, I think this hotel is well run, a beautiful place to stay and a gastronomic delight. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to friends.

We are staying in Salthill and wanted to go to a nice restaurant nearby so after doing a search on Trip Advisor I took advice from good reviews on here and they were right, The Twelve Hotel is just lovely and the staff were exceptionally friendly and professional. We ate in The Pins which was a really cosy gastro pub atmosphere with comfy sofas, nice high bar stools and lots of space in the restaurant area. We could see the Pizzeria from our table with a great pizza oven giving off the most delicious aromas from all the pizzas. We had our 2 children with us aged 3 & 5 and the staff were very friendly to them both and when my 5 year old asked for a pink drink? the lovely waiter came back and said he could do a water with grenadine cordial called a Shirley Temple...my son was over the moon and loved it. Not every restaurant would go out of their way to do that. The food arrived in good time and perfectly cooked. I had the tastiest Galway Bay Seafood Chowder with the freshest crumbliest brown bread I ever tasted...it was heavenly. Then Galway Bay Mussels in White Wine...again very good, can't beat the seafood in the West of Ireland. My husband had Chicken wings and Wedges which were both really tasty and the boys had a delicious pizza which they happily put the half they couldn't manage in a box for us to take away for later. A great restaurant we will recommend and hopefully be back again next year when on holiday in Galway. Definitely worth the short drive out the scenic coast road to Barna to eat in The Pins.

Shag pile carpet and padded leather walls in the lift to reception. Treated like VIPs on arrival. Homemade buns and sparkling wine in our room. Wonderfully friendly staff. Food fit for the foodie and the steak and chips lover. Low key decadence for a real treat. Pricey but loved it :)

Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights on 11th August. It is located in a lovely village within walking distance to a small harbour. The hotel itself was very good. Rooms were chic and modern with all the facilities you could possibly need.

We ate in the bar (restaurant was closed) and the food, I have to say, was excellent. Fantastic seafood choice. The breakfast on both mornings was amazing...can't remember the last time I had so much choice. Staff were very helpful and friendly

However I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 for one reason - our room was not cleaned when we were out on the second day. We came back that evening to an untidy room with sheets and everything just as we left them....I have to say that was a bit disapointing for a 4 star hotel. The staff at recption told me something about there 'not being enough staff on' (or something like that), but frankly that's a pretty lame excuse for a well managed and clearly organised hotel like this.

However, all in all, a great stay at a really lovely hotel....which just missed out on my full 5 stars because of the lack of room cleaning.

What a superb hotel!!! We stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate our second wedding anniversary and we will have many good memories of this hotel, from the minute we arrived we were made to feel so special. Complimentary iced tea on arrival along with being offered a comfortable seat while we went through the check-in process rather than the usual standing at a reception desk. This hotel is located approx 15 minutes drive from Galway city centre. If you are looking for a central location to stay please don’t let this 15 minutes drive put you off. I asked the receptionist about buses and she was so helpful. Within minutes she had a bus time table printed off for me. The bus stop is about 20 yards from the hotel and a single ticket into the city centre is €3.80. We decided to leave the car behind to avoid the stress of parking and city traffic. The porter carried our bags and showed us to our room which was an upgrade to the luxury suite, room 1262. A treat from the hotels own bakery was left for us in our room which we enjoyed with a nice cup of tea. The room was second to none!!! So spacious, clean and they really have thought of everything. Two ipod doc stations with surround sound, plasma screen TV with DVD player (selection of DVDs available at reception), air-con, free wi-fi, jewellery stand and an unbelievable mini-bar in a closet which includes a sink, coffee maker, microwave, kettle, champagne glasses, tumblers etc. I would just also like to mention the sockets because a lot of hotels I’ve stayed at before only have one double socket under the dressing table and this room had multi sockets, from memory it had at least 8 so great for phone chargers, hair dryer, straighteners etc. The bathroom was very spacious and had quirky mood lighting and in general the décor was nice and modern. Our room was at the front of the hotel situated along the main road but noise was minimal, infact I slept like a baby. Breakfast was included in our stay and then we ate in the Pins bar every night. The food was superb particularly the pizzas!! The customer service we received from the bar staff and waiters/waitress was excellent. Nothing was a problem to any of the staff and they were all a very happy, friendly bunch in particular a big thanks to Colette, Conor, David, Daniel, Siobhan and Zsolt for looking after us during our stay. On check-out we were given a voucher for a take away tea/coffee from the bakery to set us on our way for our 4 hour journey home. I really couldn’t find any fault with this hotel and I would have no problem recommending it to family and friends and I hope to return in the very near future. Thank you from Julie & Michael

We stayed two nights in a superior room. The décor is mostly dark brown though-out and the lighting is very dim, particularly in the corridors and stairwell. I have found this to be quite typical of boutique hotels, which seem to cater to a younger clientele rather than the middle-aged demographic. We didn't try the restaurants as we went into Galway and to the lively pub across the street, but breakfast was very good. The staff are very friendly and attentive. My only real complaint was that there was no mirror located near the plugs that accommodated hair-styling appliances.

Stayed here for 3 nights with my Wife in mid June as my daughter was in Irish School for 3 weeks. We were given a lovely room of good size, decent bathroom and tv etc. Had breakfast on two mornings and the standard and quality is up there with the very best. Good atmosphere here and what really struck me was how kind, attentive and friendly each and every one of the staff were. I found the whole experience very laid back and was sorry to leave. We will definitely return.
