I live in Hong Kong and my wife is Chinese. She is constantly amazed at how we Westerners spoil fantastic fish by frying it. Well the food here shut her up! The night we ate they had Gurnard a fish I knew from days of fishing with my dad. It is an ugly fish but most pro sea fisherman consider it the best tasting of all sea fish. However you need to cook it 'a point'. The fish was done perfectly and the accompanying veggies also cooked lightly. We were luck to find this place as we turned in looking for an ATM. One other interesting titbit about the fish is it comes from a local supplier called Ali whose shop is just down the road. Now how does a Muslim fisherman end up in Barna? Apparently Ali is highly respected for his fish and is clearly adopted by the locals. Good news for fish afficionados!! The wine list is quirky but let me down because one of the weird and interesting St Chinian wines on the chalkboard had just run out. Wines are eclectic and reasonably priced. Frankly one of the restaurant highlights of a 6 week swing through Ireland, Wales and London. Staff are young ladies who are very sweet, maybe a little inexperienced. This may explain some of the negatives. I certainly would not be going with a big group. This is for lovers!
