I had a really good meal here (I didn't stay at the hotel, so cannot vouch for it). Adam, the manager, was not only very helpful, but also very friendly and a delight to talk to.

I am a tour guide and tour agent and had arranged to make a return trip to the Grapes with 2 visitors from Australia. We were touring Armstrong country and had lunch at the Grapes prior to returning the same night to stay and for dinner.
Sunday lunch was excellent a good choice on the menu and the service was quick and the food delicious. The staff are welcoming and helped with luggage. Rooms are clean and beds very comfortable. Dinner is a must. The food is delicious, beautifully prepared and generous portions. The salad platter is summer on plate, fresh salad vegetables, coleslaw, strawberries, red currants, assorted cheeses, crusty bread etc. If you can manage a dessert they are stunning and very tasty. Great chefs. Breakfast is also very, very good. Trevor and Glynis are wonderful friendly proprietors and have excellent staff to make this a place one hotel you will return many times. As I work in the tourism industry and travel all over Scotland, I know excellent accommodation/food when I find it and the Grapes is one of the very very best.Enjoy!

Room Tip: Room 2 is front facing and a lovely room.

Just back from 6 days in the wonderful Scottish village of Newcastleton where our stay in the Grapes Hotel has renewed our faith in the British Tourist Industry. If only all hotels were like this then there would be no need to write reviews!! Exceptionally friendly owners and staff, fine dining or delicious homely bar meals. Hearty breakfast which kept us going all day and clean comfortable room with all facilities necessary to feel contented and rested. We golfed locally on a small well maintained course, walked for miles in beautiful surroundings and were invited and encouraged by the friendly village folk to use their lawn green bowling facilities. Just got to return asap. You have to encounter the experience to believe it. Best short break without going abroad.

I attended a very large dinner at the Grapes recently. It was a dinner for over 25 people and the food we had was exceptionable. I have not had better at a mass catering do. The superb food was served by a charming ,hard working and highly efficient team. A real pleasure and a very good night.

Room Tip: Great Food

We stayed here for one night with our 3 children, really accomodating as it is difficult to find a room that will sleep 5 people. The room was en suite and was nice and clean, comfortable beds and a quiet nights sleep. We dined in the restaurant and the food was brilliant, I am a picky eater but couldn't fault the food, really good quality. Breakfast the next day was cooked to order and included fruit and cereal etc. Glynis and Trevor, the owners are really friendly and welcoming and we wouldn't hesitate to return.

Myself and a work colleague stayed at this hotel for a few nights and we were well looked after. The owners are so friendly and they make the best breakfast to start your day. The hotel has a great chef serving a good menu all reasonable priced. I had a pleasant stay at this hotel and if i was visiting the area again i would stay again.

I can only surmise that previous reviews were tired out mountain bikers who didn't notice the cheap, tired out decor and not very clean either. Went here as they advertised free wi fi - nowhere to put a laptop. Rather aggressive male owner, suggested doing my computer work in the bar lounge! Dull and dingy surroundings, no wonder it has no star rating from scottish tourist board.
