Well, we were somewhat caught of guard by this place - for a lot of reasons. Es Mercadal is not exactly "bustling" at night. And this place is not exactly easy to find. But do yourself a favor - find it. The minute you step through their door, you're met with a rustic, yet tasteful and peaceful setting. The bulk of the seating is in a small interior courtyard that is very quaintly lit.
The staff was remarkably friendly and very interactive with their guests. Family-run place, through and through.
Oh, the food? Yep, top notch. Local-ish dishes, but with a distinctive culinary flair. The cod was unbelievably fresh and delicious. The suckling pig was wonderful. Everything prepared and presented perfectly. Very nice wine selection also. We couldn't possibly recommend this place enough. No matter where you're staying on the island, it's worth venturing into Es Mercadal to find this place. You won't be disappointed.
