My wife had roast suckling pig and it was delicious and tender. I had roast kid with wild mushrooms, a dish I enjoyed but kid maybe not my first meat choice for the future! The setting is very nice - in a cellar. No problems with the service - all round an excellent choice. Worth the trip from a coastal resort for the cuisine and the setting.

We had the small AA guide book of Mallorca and it had a review of this restaurant. As we had hired a car and Petra was about 20 minutes away from Alcudia we decided to go.

One tip I will say is that if you enter Petra from the Alcudia direction you`ll probably see a large barn / factory with a sign for the place showing its 300 metres away... trust me when I say its about 1.3KM away.... just pass the sign and keep on the road into town and look for the small Es Celler signs on the walls... (I think after the large barn you go up the road to a cross roads of sorts - past the railtracks and carpark on left)... go straight up 2 long narrow streets, turn right and its on a corner on the right...

We went in and easily found a table... myself and my partner had excellent starters and a main of the "Me Al Forn" which was the slow roasted lamb shoulder.

Both meals were excellent and tasted fantastic. I`ve never seen lamp on the bone fall away so easily and roast potatoes on the plate are excellent to soak up the juices from the meat. My partner said the house red wine was also very nice as well...

The town of Petra itself is not very touristy itself, (which can be a bonus after all the resorts on Majorca).... the guide also says there is a 2nd good restaurant called Sa Placa, which we didn`t visit..

If you in Majorca for a few days, you have a car and don`t fancy india buffets or Burger Kings, try this restaurant out for fantastic traditional Majorcian dishes.

Please note that it is closed on Mondays

Although the setting and the menu were reasonably authentic the quality of the food we were served was not as good as Celler Sa Premsa which we had visited a couple of days previously in Palma. My wife's Sopa Mallorquin smacked of trhe worst kind of over-boiled English Sunday dinner cabbage. My son's beef was very chewy and full of gristle. The Pa amb Oli was, however, ample and tasty. Decent house red.

Overall the food here was excellent and as we eat out in Mallorca several times a month i don't say this lightly! It is not Gourmet just excellent traditional Mallorca Cuisine. We had Frito Mallorquin to start with followed by Lamb chops grilled on an open grill and Suckling Pig which had obviously been slowly cooked for a very long time. The Alioli and Olives were also great. The restaurant itself is in a cellar so beautifully cool on a hot day. We had tried to go once before on Sunday but it was so full with Mallorcan families we couldn't get in. No better recommendation required!!
