My wife and I spent a very enjoyable night at this hotel in mid May.The hotel has been
refurbished to a very high standard and the level of cleanliness was excellent. Our stay was on a
Sunday when the hotel restaurant was closed so ate in the adjoining pizzeria (same owners as
the hotel )where the food was good being prepared by a very friendly chef.
Breakfast was also good with a wide range of food to choose from.
I very much look forward to our next stay in September.

Outside is not looking promising. Inside is then surprisingly great. 3 Stars are perfectly rated. Rooms are small as usual in Old France Hotels but have a nice modern interior design.
Restaurant is serving good French cuisine at very acceptable prices.

Les Palis is a beautifully refurbished facility in the heart of Grand Fougeray. It is very well done, with modern conveniences, yet not out of place with the age and feel of the building. The rooms were very well appointed, with a comfortable bed, plenty of space, a desk, water closet and shower room. I had a room that was up in the attic, so to speak, but it had a skylight that allowed in natural light. It was a very quiet room. The dinner was very good, with a nice selection of wines. The food presentation was outstanding. Breakfast had a nice assortment of breads, cheeses, fruit, etc. The ONLY downside to the stay was that the staff was a little pushy and did not reflect the warmth of the facility. Sit here, not there, take a tray, not just a plate....... and all in French which, sadly, I don't understand any of. Aside from that attitude, it was a very pleasant stay.

The hotel and service are well worth it's three star classification. The rooms offer almost a 4star feeling. The common parts, the 'look' of the restaurant and the thalasso area are definitely missing the 'star touch'.
I would recommend the hotel for a stay within the neighbourhood, since the touristic 'sights' are at least 40km away.
The receptionist was very helpful giving suggestions for visiting the area.

When we were shown to our room after a long drive from the Dordogne it was like being involved in a TV Holiday Commercial. The room was absolutely up to date with whirlpool bath, huge bed and every luxury you could think of. Probably the best Logis de France that we have stayed in. The restaurant was fine but after the long day we needed a big plate of food and not a picture on a plate. That seems a bit petty because the food was good, just not or style for that occasion. Staff helpful and hotel spotless although plagued outside by hundeds of 'Dady-Long-Legs.

On the plus side, the bed was large and very comfortable, and the wifi was reliable. Room was spacious but a small sky-light did not provide sufficient natural light. Despite the space, there was a serious shortage of provision for unpacking; so while this might not matter for the one-night traveller, it was a serious inconvenience for someone staying a few nights - just a small hanging cupboard with virtually no additional drawer or shelf space, so that we were forced to leave folded clothes in our suitcases.

The heating / air con control in the room was impossible to control - it was either stuffily hot or freezing cold - and I mean freezing - like stepping into an icebox when we returned after a day out. We mentioned this to the duty manager and he replied that he knew, but nothing seemed to be done about it.

The light in the bathroom comes on automatically - all very neat - except it also goes off automatically, and does not give you time to have even a quick shower: groping around in pitch black and trying to lean out of a slippery wet shower to activate the light was actually quite dangerous. There was also absolutely nowhere to put anything down in the bathroom - despite quite a lot of empty space.

Hotel is close to local facilities and we enjoyed exploring the area. There is a small supermarket, a baker, bar and creperie in the village.
