Auberge Relais du Cheval Blanc
Reviewed August 30, 2012

Found this quaint 'Restaurant with Rooms' whilst searching for accommodation in the Loire Valley area and am so glad we chose to stay here. The Auberge is situated just off the Auto-route and easy to find. located in a small village it offers gastronomic quality food and decent, clean and modern accommodation in an adjacent building. The couple who run this speak little English but are very welcoming and helpful. There is a pool and gardens plus a lovely terrace area. We enjoyed two nights here and tried the gastronomic menu on our second evening. Following cocktails recommended by the staff, the meal was just out of this world and we cannot wait to return next summer. Superb and highly recommended.

We enjoyed the drive off the autoroute to find this auberge. The rooms and ensuite facilities were clean and comfortable, albeit small. There were tea and coffee facilities in the room. It was easy to hear your neighbour in the next room and in the rooms above. We tried to use the hotel's wifi but were unsuccessful. The evening meal was very nice. My husband and dad particularly enjoyed their starters, andouillette with apples and the terrine. Breakfast was adequate.

We chose the Auberge for our 1st night stop-over on our way down to the Dordogne as this would be half way and an approximate drive of three and a half hour drive from the tunnel.

The Auberge Relais du Cheval Blanc is located in a small village and is the main focal point for the locals. Whilst the room was fairly basic it was large, clean and the bed comfortable. The restaurant is the gem and definitely the highlight when staying. Excellent food and wine at prices that encourage you to drink more than one bottle.

We would recommend anybody who wanted an overnight stay either on the way down or returning home to stay at this Auberge.

We will use it again.

we stopped at Auberge de Cheval Blanc en route fro the ile de re to Calais. we found the auberge online and were looking for a simple stop over but be were so delighted when we found the hotel to be a real 'hidden gem'. we were warmly welcomed but a wonderful team who oozed a sense of familiarity. they were kind and patient making every effort to help us when we did not understand everything. we booked two rooms for our family. the rooms were clean and incredibly spacious with the added benefit of having separate toilets and bathrooms. the restaurant certainly did not disappoint. it is safe to say that the steak was absolutely amazing and cooked to perfection. all the food was home cooked and i particularly enjoyed the terrine to start with. the local cheeses were very special and with a recommended wine to accompany-we felt thoroughly spoilt. on my travels, i am always aware of disabled-friendly places as my mother has limited ability and i was delighted to see that there were many provisions made for the less able. the village itself was very pretty and oozed the charm of french life. i would highly recommend staying at the auberge and would definitely go back-hopefully for a longer stay!

Room Tip: all the rooms to my knowledge were spacious clean and quiet with comfortable beds-i think you could...

We stopped off here last Summer on our way to and from the South of France. On the way there we ate in the restaurant which was very good value and our children were made welcome in the restaurant. We were hoping to eat on the way back but a problem with the car meant we arrived after the kitchen had shut. The owner was lovely asked if we wanted a drink. After the car fiasco a wine was in order! She sold us a bottle from the shop next door as opposed to from the bar. We were then able to take over to the room.

This was a lovely stop over for one night, I would have loved to stay longer. A gem of a find

Room Tip: I have a room facing the road, with the window open all night. Quiet village I had no problem.

We also stopped in this lovely Hotel on our way from the Dordogne to Le Havre. We travelled with friends and our friend found this Hotel on Tripadvisor. What a find! Very clean, comfortable room, as said before a bonus to find a kettle with tea, coffee etc, very welcome after a long drive. Our room also had a huge bath.
The food in the Restaurant excellent, wonderful to find a place with a Restaurant open on a Monday night, it was full when we were there. Well worth staying there as a stopover.
