Don’t go here! Why you ask? Well, I would like to start off by listing out some of the most basic amenities/offerings that ONE CANNOT AND SHOULD NOT expect at Birds Valley Resort:
- A/C
- Hand Towels
- Bath tub with a shower and faucets that don’t have a mind of their own
- Clean Bath Towels
- Toilet Rolls
- Paper Tissues/Napkins
- Shampoos, Soaps and Shower Gels (It’s pointless to have a bathtub when none of these bathing accessories are provided)
- Wifi
- Kettle/Tea Bags/Coffee Sachets
- Pest-free spaces indoors and outdoors
- Decent watchable channels on TV
- Hygienic, sumptuous meals
- Good bed with a comfortable mattress and a duvet/quilt
- Extra pillows
- Phone numbers of all the necessary departments/services offered by the resort at the room
- Tasty food, including basic beverages like Tea and Coffee (Note: There are Tea plantations in Munnar, but we had possibly the worst cup of tea here!)

What they do offer are a less-than-majestic view of unkempt mountains, the naturally pleasant weather (which is not the resort’s doing, obviously!), an insect (read: ant) problem that does not quit, on-site construction din, an unabashedly unapologetic and apathetic front desk that is shocked at patrons’ requests for clean rooms, and finally, an urge to check out from the moment one checks in!

In other words, the perfect recipe for a sadistic holiday experience!

We regrettably booked a four-night night stay at a Honeymoon Cottage (Gooseberry) from Feb 14th to 18th. Far from it being an idyllic setting for our honeymoon, this place turned out to be a living nightmare. From the persistent red ant problem (Note: big red ants, and not the kind us city dwellers are used to!) and the listless cups of tea/coffee to the lackadaisical efforts of the staff, we simply had to brace ourselves for one disappointment after another.

Such horrid was our experience here that we were forced to cut short our stay and ended up checking into another local resort within 48 hours (despite not getting any refund and having to spend a little extra on our last-minute booking at the other resort).

While we had prepared ourselves for the worst after reading some of the recent reviews of this place, we obviously thought some of them might be a tad exaggerated. However, at this moment, we completely agree with every single negative review of Birds Valley Resort. For nearly INR 4000/- a night, this place is overpriced to say the least.

The only silver lining here is the architecture of the individual cottages. However, it would seem as though zero effort has gone into the upkeep and maintenance. Even some of the lamps leading to our cottage (which was on the edge of the property) were not functioning. We had to literally use our cell phones to navigate through the pitch darkness. The pathway to some of the cottages (including ours) is also not paved. This truly begs a question: why would you rent out rooms and cottages that are clearly not ready for service?

Another major concern is the hygiene of this place. The rooms don’t seem fumigated or sanitized. Secondly, even the restaurant’s hygiene standards are not up to par (Note: The food is a whole ‘nother paragraph!)

OK, so now about the food (or what these people try to pass off as food!). On our first night here, they offered a dinner buffet, which successfully killed my vegetarian wife’s appetite. They only decent item on buffet was the masala chicken, for which the credit goes to the dead bird more than the chef. Next morning’s breakfast was no different! After having pelted us with one horrible (Note: not bad or average!) dish after another, we just decided to snack on the banana chips we had thankfully picked up on our way to Munnar.

After reading all this, if you still wish to stay here, you have just yourself to blame. Don’t bother pointing fingers at the good folks at Birds Valley Resort as I am sure their arrogant and mystifyingly inept Public Relations Manager will certainly counter accuse you for being a bad guest as I am sure he will me!

This hotel is a bit away from Munnar Market. Location is good. You will love the chirping sound of birds. Rooms are good. All rooms are twin cottages i.e. two rooms connected with each other. Food is good. Those who want to spend peaceful time in the natural surrounding will love this property. Manager and staff are co-operative. Room service takes time because of distance from restaurant and the reception area. Here you will see various plants of spices and fruits. Its a different experience.

Room Tip: There is not a much difference between base category rooms and superior rooms. So you can book base category rooms.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for staying with us and writing this review. As you know Munnar is a vast area and most of the resorts are scattered in many valleys and hills. One cant experience Munnar nature by staying in concrete jungle but need to be an area like our resort to really experience the colors of nature, the misty mountains, chirpy birds and the spices trees. We do have independent Honey moon cottages and also twin cottages.

We have noted all your comments and here by assure you that corrective measures will be taken wherever it is possible to improve the guest experience.

Once again thank you very much for your natural review.

Lovely location .. right in the lap of nature. Great rooms, good service. The cottages have big balconies where you can sit and spend an entire lifetime just staring at the beauty of nature. Yes, its away from Munnar but Munnar town is nothing in itself.

Only downside of this resort is the food and the fact that you have to go for the buffet. However, its manageable.

Highly recommended !!

Room Tip: They have those lovely cottages only .. chose anyone and you'll like it.

Dear Mr. Ashutosh,

First of all many thanks for staying with us and it is wonderful to know that you have enjoyed your stay with us.

As far as restaurant is concerned we agree that it is down stream but as you said it is manageable. However we do have room service for those who hesitate to take a healthy walk through the spice plantation.

Thank you once again for staying with us and experiencing the mother nature in its prime.

we have stayed for 2 days. on the first day itself it was a set off for us. The restaurant services was terribly slow and they only have limited choice of food. the breakfast was ridiculous... yes it is free but please be considerate.
the rooms are ok but very dirty and full with insects. kindly look into the problems as this kind of environment will not be tolerated by guest esp families.

Room Tip: no comment as they is no upgrade or solution for our issues

Dear Sir,

We have taken your comments and suggestions very seriously and would like to ensure you that corrective steps are initiated to avoid inconvenience to our valuable guests. As we always say, being a hill station plantation resort we do find insects getting attracted to the lights especially in the night. We have taken various steps to avoid this problem and would like to inform you that the pest control is being strengthened and various other measures are employed to avoid this.
