“Fantastic food in a low key setting”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

Ricca's restaurant sits next to a take-away pizza place in a small shopping complex. At first glance, arriving with four others for a friends birthday, I have to admit to wondering whether we might have made a better choice. It was a freezing night and the small space was a little cool at first but as people arrived and almost filled the space it became very comfortable. A table of 2, of 10 and 5, as well as the 5 of us, 22 people in all.

The general ambience is relaxed and comfortable, a little 'cafe' perhaps. Don't expect tablecloths, you are hear for exceptional food, served promptly by pleasant staff with the small kitchen crew working quietly and very visibly behind. I don't recall a word being spoken as they went about preparing great quality food. We sampled across the menu and whether French or Asian influenced everything was extremely well worth the slightly high prices.

Would I go back - at the drop of a hat.

“Sme of the best food on The Peninsula”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

We have been coming to Ricca's for a fair few years now and it just gets better and better. For us this is a real gem And we are slightly worried that if the word gets out to many more people it will become even harder to get a table so best to book to avoid disappointment. Ricca's is a simply decorated, local, gourmet restaurant & for regulars and visiting gormands it is a constant winner. Do not be fooled by the modest frontage and interior. This is serious eating. There are 11 entres and we've have tried a fair few. The zucchini flowers filled with prawn mouse, crisped in beer batter served with champagne cream sauce was sublime as we're the figs stuffed with French goats cheese, baked, served with orange, shaved fennel, walnuts & vino cotta dressing. My husband is a vegan and they always serve up a surprise for him and it's always delicious. Bernard and his assistant/co chef, Amy work with local, fresh ingredients and the results are always amazing. There is always fish on the menu, often with Asian flavours and the combination of ingredients in all Bernie's creations is always inspiring and surprising. In winter, the lamb shanks were fabulous as we're the crumbed lamb. If you have any space left for a desert, these are imaginative, generous and should be shared. The wine list celebrates the locals, with wines from The Mornington Peninsula region that are good value and great accompaniment to the food. This restaurant is understated excellence that guarantees a loyal clientele and excitement by visitors who like to think they have discovered it! We will continue to frequent Ricca's with famly and friends above most other places on The Peninsula as it never disappoints and always surprises.

“THE BEST LOCAL B.Y.O”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

As a Mornington Peninsula local we enjoy eating out a lot and there certainly is a lot of choice.
Riccas is in a shopping strip in Balnarring just 50 meters from the main shopping area.
A lovely small restaurant featuring excellent locally sourced produce and providing a great range of dishes. We have always had very good to excellent meals here and can highly recommend it, just make sure you book first. An added bonus is the fact that this is one of the only byo restaurants on the Peninsula, a lesson which many other restaurants could learn a valuable lesson from.
