Look, don't get me wrong. The grounds & gardens are beautiful. We also had a wonderful (!!) meal in the restaurant upstairs. It was excellent. But the room are TINY. I would have to say, using rooms in the UK as a benchmark (they are often very small), I think these are the smallest I've stayed in anywhere. We had to do headstands to fit our bags in (& they weren't big bags). There was barely room along the side of the bed to get into bed. The bathroom however was a good size & nicely renovated. And we enjoyed our walk down the road to the beach. So there are some pluses! Furthermore, I can live with a small room. But to charge well over $200 for this level of accommodation is a bit rich I think. I would endure the small room for a more reasonable price.

Thank-you for your feedback Pam,
Since your review, our new management team have addressed your concerns and have updated our communications process to inform guests of the history of our rooms. We have also adjusted our pricing. You may be interested to learn that in early 2002 the original dormitory rooms of the historical "Morning Star Boys' Home" were modified to create a 20 room Guest House. Originally there were 30 dormitory rooms with communal facilities; these were altered by converting every second room into two en suites. Formerly the dormitory rooms housed 4 or 6 boys, and were kept small as to keep the cold out. As you mentioned you don't live in your rooms when visiting Morning Star Estate, we are pleased you enjoyed your dining experience and exploring our beautiful garden areas and vineyards as well as the surrounding areas! Kindest Regards, MSE.

Beautiful setting, poor service and Boutique food which is minuscule, so you need to order
two side dishes of vegetables so you don't starve. Lamb cutlet - One only placed on a little
piece of stringy meat, so as to appear more. My fish was 2" long x 1 1/2 wide and terrible.
Then there was our sweet of chocolate pudding (forget anything you know about chocolate
pudding) - this was dry piece of cake as a cube with shredded coconut looking like a wig with
hard pieces of violet crumble placed around a very large plate with little dabs of honey comb.
The only thing I really enjoyed was the champagne and the roses. Take your cheque book.

i want to start this review with a rave about the food here. the chef, whomever they are is a real star. we tried lots of things on the menu - the duck charcuterie, the lamb cutlets, the waygu porterhouse, the pork belly (oh my god, perfectly cooked.) roasted kipflers as well as the scallops and thoroughly enjoyed everything. they were able to adjust everything to be gluten free at the last minute too which was super awesome and it obviously didn't impact quality of the food. the food was also very reasonably priced.
what let's this place down is the service staff.. wow. they really suck! they didn't remember basic things like drinks/water/removing dirty plates/offering clean plates/cutlery. tiny mistakes can be forgiven if there is at least some charm/charisma but they didn't not greet us warmly or smile or anything. it was really weird, actually.
also there is no ambience in the dining room. some music or candles would really help. i am writing this because it seems so sad that the chef is obviously talented and gives a crap(which seems kind of hard to come by on the peninsula) but the service staff clearly do not.
thanks!

Apologies for your experience with the service staff, we have recently recruited new staff members and put into place an ongoing training program for all employees. will be back in the summer when the garden is in full bloom. swimming pool and spa was out of action, I don't expect that I will be able to afford the tariff in the summer season. It would not suit everyone's taste but we appreciated the history of the place and the relative isolation.

Room Tip: Rooms tiny but adequate, quaint and spotless.

Went for a birthday lunch, and was greeted by friendly staff Zach & Danni who went out of their way to make us feel welcome as well as accommodating us with a pram. The food was of quality the surroundings outstanding & atmosphere first class. I found out its under new management & will definitely be back again for more yummy meals.
Thanks once again to the staff at Morning Star.

I was told the rooms were small but didn't imagine so small that could hardly walk around the bed and that also mean't tripping over bag as nowhere else to put it. No air conditioning, no tv, no fridge. It was claustrophobia. Thank goodness for the tiny window. It was very expensive and definitely not worth even half. The deluxe room was only slightly bigger and more expensive again! This was no better than a backpackers. To shower had to close the bathroom door. Eventually found the hairdryer, in the wardrobe. Only stayed there as attended a wedding and thought it would be convenient as didn't want to drive. Breakfast was included but only between 9 and 10 we had to leave at 8am!! Think again and stay just a bit down the road in comfort.
