“Best Stop from Haneda Airport”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

It is near Shinagawa Station, easy access from the airport and perfect connection to the city of Tokyo. Staff is super friendly and helpfull. Rooms are quiete small but nice. If you considere to stay longer they have a shared house for longer stays and good price!
Next to the hostel is a great sushi restaurant.

I highly recommend here to hip travellers who plans to go out for Shibuya, Harajuku, Omotesando or Shinjuku districts.

The guest house is located in the quiet area where traditional private shops line the streets.

I stayed one night in private room. It was cheap but decent.

The staffs could hardly become more nice and friendly, and the room was clean and charming.

I loved the details of the guest room where you can find simple but stylish decoration.
ex)miniatures tree and rhino in the bathroom.

They offered me a hot-water bottle for free! It was very nice. And also, you can rent chic pajama(MUJI label) for 300 Yen.

Also, there is also famous ramen shop called "Ramen Jiro" in the neighborhood.

Tips:
Shinagawa district embraces diversity. There are meat market, skyscraper office buildings, old harbour and Tokyo's leading comtemporary art museum(Hara museum).

If you walk south from the west exit of Shinagawa Station, cross the bridge over several tracks and then cross a double set of tracks, you will arrive at a narrow street lined with small shops and restaurants, with lamp posts decorated with hanging paper lanterns. This is the start of the old Tokaido Highway, which connected Edo (Tokyo) with Kyoto.

100m down on the left, just past a Family Mart convenience store is the Shinagawa Shuku, a former ryokan or minshuku that has been turned into a basic hostel-type hotel, but using the same rooms as the former inn. There is a choice of singles, twins (doubles), triples, and dorm-type rooms, all on tatami mats. This means that you sleep on futons on the floor. Each room has a small table, a shelf with hangers under it, and an air conditioner and that's about it. On each floor is a sink outside your room to wash up in (the 3rd floor has hot water), and there are 2 baths in the basement, one of which is modernized and one with the washing machine which isn't.

If you're not looking for anything fancy, and only need a place to leave your luggage and sleep, then this might appeal to you. From a youth hostel point of view it would rank on the high side. From a business hotel point of view, it wouldn't be quite as nice, but it would be half the price. The singles were Y3500 and the twins were Y7000. In July and January, high season, the rates go up by Y300 per person. Also in the hot summer season, there's a %10 surcharge when the AC is blasting all day long.

The front desk is helpful and just behind it is a small common room where you can watch TV or have some coffee or tea. As mentioned before, A Family Mart convenience store is almost next door for snacks or meals that you can eat in your room. In all directions are numerous small restaurants, izakaya, and yakitori places. A small post office is just up the street for mail or an ATM that works with foreign debit cards. In the other direction down a side street is a coin laundry.

After the Suzuki Ryokan closed a couple of years ago, budget accommodation outside of the youth hostels was hard to find. This place is cheaper than the Int'l Hostel in Iidabashi and is in a more interesting neighborhood. The only real inconvenience is that it's about a 15-20 minute walk from the JR station. If you have a lot of luggage, it's only a 5 minute walk from the Kita-Shinagawa Station on the Keikyu private line.

Room Tip: The end room on each floor away from the entrance is a slightly larger single.
