“Cliff Hotel-Good pricey though”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

Reception great. Nice views out. Room clean and neat. Large comfortable bed. Clean sheets. Shower room good fittings with selection of shampoo/soap/conditioner. Nice white towels. Breakfast was very good. Never used the restaurant for evening meal-so can't comment on it. The bar was good. Hotel nice location close to the beach.

Would have given my review 5 stars- I paid extra for the sea view [which was good] but sadly opening the balcony door to take the view was met with dozens and dozens of cigarette butts, builders debris, cable ties, pieces of wood even a beer keg. Would have been good to have couple of chairs and table to enjoy a coffee or glass of wine. Obviously the area on the balcony had never been cleaned in months-sad really.

Room Tip: Consider the sea view but be aware of debris cigarette butts on balcony

Loved this placed, stayed for a couple of days in February, this was for business and stayed for two days. Room was great. The food was really good. Ideal location. Must come back in the summer, to take in the great views.

We were there on a'Trip Down Memory Lane'....my wife having been brought up in Gorleston, all of which went very well. We spotted the hotel on a 'Wowcher' offer so we did not pay the full rate.
The hotel is being renovated and so far so very good. There were works going on there during our stay but we were not disturbed in any way by this. The room and bathroom were well up to and above its star rating. Large and comfortable bed in a tastefully decorated room, nice TV, good selection of complimentary toiletries and a nice sea view also a view of the dock entrance.
We ate in the busy bar from the same menu as the restaurant ,food and service excellent. The TV was on in the bar at one end with the football on (no sound) which was fine.
Good choice of freshly prepared breakfast....my wife's scrambled egg was perfectly cooked and presented, and my 'Full English 'was also very good......All in all, a nice small hotel with friendly and efficient staff.

Room Tip: We had sea view room on first floor....

I have stayed here on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed it.
The rooms are way better now than they were after a long renovation period (...but I have to agree with the previous reviewer about the new shower fittings - if you turn it on 'full strength' it just sprays up the wall and ceiling, it's easily solved by turning the water down a bit though! :^) ).
Food in the restaurant is always good and breakfast is excellent.
I actually like the busy bar - far better than sitting listening to a ticking clock.
I'm pretty sure that when the renovations are complete, this will be a 5 star review!

Its a hotel that's seen better days and is trying (a bit too hard) to catch up.

OK so my initial impression was spoilt by a couple of builders re-shaping the reception area which resulted in conversations with the receptionist taking place between bouts of hammering. The shower sent more water cascading over the ceiling and the wall than over me. The plug in the wash basin was jammed shut so didn't allow water to drain away.

Shame I had to ask the night porter to replace the pillows - they all looked (and smelt) slept upon by a previous occupant.

The restaurant "Mitchells" was very good, although the service was a bit variable at breakfast. The bar seemed more popular (the menu was certainly more varied) but its quite a noisy environment when you have a couple of male groups intent on out-drinking each other.

Room Tip: Do not willingly accept a room on the 2nd floor if you have any large or bulky luggage. There's...

Dear Christines _Friend
thank you for your review and taking time to list positive as well as less than satisfactory
Firstly apologies for the workmen in reception.. we are working our way through what was a very tired seaside Hotel and revamping all of the guests facilities, communal included...trying to hard? well yes we are trying hard , trying hard to make sure that we offer the best for our guests , we don't want to reach a standard in the local area, we intend to set it.
We are currently installing marble floors to our reception area , along with a new desk etc (its very nearly finished.... :) ) this was/is an essential improvement to the building which we have been transforming since we purchased it...
it is a shame you didn't inform us about the shower and sink whilst with us... we have a maintenance man on site who would have taken care of this in a flash! just a couple of twists of a screwdriver and all fixed!
As to the pillows , this we will have to beg to differ on ,ALL bedding is laundered and replaced for each guest. I will be speaking to our linen supplier with regards to this but again if it wasn't up to speed I do apologise and am glad that the replacements supplied by our night porter were ok.
The bar area is / can be quite lively but the reason for this is that it is good - we have a strong repeat customer base but we also have very strict controls on responsible alcohol retail so we simply would not tolerate "groups out drinking each other" for future stays please be aware that we also have a quieter residents only bar , and our relaxing lounge which are always available for those that prefer a less lively atmosphere

Thank you for choosing the cliff - we look forward to seeing you again soon

Lovely place to spend a night, I was here for work so wasn't seeing the sights. Room key wouldn't work so without much fuss I was given an upgrade to another room, and wow it was amazing. I get the feeling that even my standard room would have been lovely. I ate in the restaurant, although I wish the staff had recommended me to eat in the bar as this became more busy while I was left alone in the restaurant. Apart from that little blip i'd definetely reccomend this hotel for a stay, beautiful!
