“A find in time of trouble”
Reviewed December 8, 2012

A relative was rushed into Gorleston Hospital and we had to dash up (155 miles) at very short notice. Jennis Lodge was idealy placed being only a couple of minutes away by car from the hospital. Our room was available to us all day which was handy as we had to make numerous arrangements conerning our relative. Both Vicci and Paul went out of their way to assist us by supplying local knowledge and places to eat. We tried the Pier Hotel (a five minute walk away) and the meal was excellent. However, with time being short we dined in most evenings at Jennis Lodge which was very convenient. Despite the cold weather our room was always warm and we could not fault the cleaning. Hopefully we will return to Jennis lodge in the near future and enjoy visiting the area under less stressful circumstances.

I stayed here for a month and cannot fault the place or the proprietors. The owners are very friendly and welcoming, with clean and comfortable rooms and a delicious breakfast. It is a stones throw away from Gorleston beach and a short walk from the town. An ideal place to stay for a break away or if on a business trip to the Great Yarmouth area.

Stayed for 2 nights, expected much more based on the reviews we had read, vicci and Paul are really friendly but feel we have to be honest in our review:
First nights sleep was absolutely awful, the pillows were so flat and hard, I awoke the following morning with such a stiff neck, I needed the rest of the day to recover, ( not to mention it was a birthday break! ) mattress was stated new, but springs were digging into back all night.

Second nights stay was slightly more bearable after we had complained about the pillows and hard mattress- they changed our room and we thought this was a goodwill gesture- we couldn't believe they charged us more money for the room!!!
As well as the Bathroom light hanging half off ceiling, cobwebs in corner, sink dirty,
Our stay was poor, will not be returning to that b&b again.
Very unsatisfied.

Sam and Paul.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review as it now gives us the right to reply. You mention in your review the need to be honest, yet fail to admit you both suffer from bad backs, to the extent that you carry a Tens machine for the pain. This may explain your sleepless night, not the quality of the pillows and new mattress. Several previous guests have advised others, on this site, to ask for that room as it is at the back of the property and they were more than satisfied.
We gave you the choice of another Double room at the same price, or a Family room at just £10.00 extra, of which you replied you were happy to take the larger room. We accept that the main bathroom light had pulled away from the ceiling slightly, however as it was working perfectly we find it difficult to understand why you should mention it now, yet not to us, so that we could make the simple adjustment.
As for the dirty sink, if you had rubbed the offending mark with your finger, you would have discovered that it is a chip in the enamel where someone has dropped something. After spending some time trying to find a cobweb, we can only assume that it was in the gap where the toilet waste pipe passes through the tiled floor. If so, we can only apologise, as cleanliness is something we take very seriously.
Finally may we say, that if you like to be so honest, why is it that when you left you said, “Thank you for a nice stay and we hope to return, also sorry for being so picky about the mattress”
We think that after people have read all the reviews of Jennis Lodge, they will see this one for what it is.

Very welcoming and friendly couple running an excellent guest house. Room was very clean, well decorated and good shower. Location is ideal for beach walks or into Gorleston. Breakfast was good to start day with. Value for money. Rang me to tell me what I had left behind as well! Will hopefully be able to stay again!

We had an absolutely excellent couple of days stay at Jennis Lodge where Paul & Vicci made us feel most welcome. Our room was very comfortable and clean and the breakfast was great just the thing to set you up for the day. We found Jennis Lodge well situated with a lovely beach at the end of the road just perfect for walking our dog and not far from shops and restaurants. Would definitely recommend this b & b and hope to stay there again.

When first viewing the photos of Jennis Lodge before planning our trip down south, we were a bit unsure as the photos of the lounge plus fluffy dog was a bit dated looking and a bit off putting. Do think this photo would be best deleted. The place is much nicer and We were in the top back double bedroom, on the small side but quiet and comfortable. The bathrooms are new and good shower. Breakfast was delicious and plenty of everything, cereal, cooked breakfast (healthy style if wanted) We were fine, but if more toast or anything needed not a problem.
Vicci (+baby by now) and Paul very helpful and recommended the Pier Hotel nearby for evening meals. We ate there both nights and lovely place and delicious food. We never realised that Gorleston on Sea had such a wonderful beach and enjoyed our long walks on it whilst we were there.
