“Fantastic food, nice rooms”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2011

We recently stayed here for two nights and were very impressed, particularly by the food which was of an incredibly high standard. These days so many places claim to source their produce locally but not many places can substantiate those claims to the same extent as the Pilgrims with virtually everything coming from within a few miles of the restaurant (and make no mistake, this is a restaurant not a pub) and all the suppliers named on the menu. The only (small) criticism I would have is that it was pretty quiet in the restaurant on both nights we were there (Friday and Saturday) resulting in a fairly muted atmosphere but this was more than compensated for by the wonderful food.

The rooms are modern, comfortable and furnisehd to a high standard. I would thoroughly recommend the Pilgrims for a relaxing gastronomic getaway.

We found the Pilgrim by accident as we were travelling back to London...We only stopped for lunch...and it was fabulous...a beautiful day, we sat in the garden had a superbly cooked Orzetto which was to die for....but have to say it was difficult to decide with such a fab menu...The owners were wonderful, friendly and just could not do enough for you it is not often the chef comes out for a chat and has so much enthusiasm for good food....

We certainly intend to visit again and stay next time...

A pub with rooms - but what rooms and what food!
The people who run this inn are so friendly. It was such a joy to visit. The rooms are small but nicely decorated. Room 2 has the nicest bathroom. The breakfast was so delicious especially the home made bread and jam. They were very good with directions and they waited up late for us as we found our way.

Having trawled the internet for a weekend retreat without the children, the combination of great food in a pub environment really appealed to us. From the minute we arrived the hospitality of Sally and Jools could not have been any better, with both making time to chat to us and check that everything was ok.
The room was lovely - not huge but beautifully furnished and it had everything we needed. The food was quite simply amazing. The choice and presentation of the food were impressive, and the quality and taste of everything we had were fantastic. It was great to understand the provenance of each aspect and you could tell it had not travelled far! Both the evening dinners and breakfasts were wonderful and staying there too long would not be great for the waistlines!
We would recommend the Pilgrims Rest to anyone wanting a no-fuss place to stay that provides lovely accommodation and an amazing eating experience!

Having searched high and low for somewhere to break up our journey to the south coast we discovered this gem!

The food at the Pilgrims is sublime and we could have happily polished off any of the wide choice of starters or mains on offer - all locally sourced for that extra touch that you don't get with a chain! Prices were fair for the quality and quantity on offer and we were well attended to, without being rushed throughout our meal.
Make sure you leave room for breakfast - this is definitely a high light of staying!

The rooms were large, modern and incredibly comfortable! Had we not had to continue with our journey I could quite happily have stayed in the kingsize bed all day!

We will definitely stay again and would happily recommend!

We booked this place to attend a wedding in the area. Booking somewhere online is always a little bit of a gamble, as you never quite know what the place is like until you get there. With The Pilgrims however we simply could not have been happier.

The staff were happy to accommodate us when we had to arrive before check-in time, and that good service continued throughout our stay. The place is a family-run business and it shows with a friendly, personable and excellent service throughout.

The bedroom was lovely - the room a good size, with a lovely comfortable bed that made it difficult to want to get up in the morning. And the bathroom was beautifully fitted and equipped with a great shower and a large roll-top bath. Complimentary tea and coffee on offer (with good-quality tea and coffee on offer).

Last but by no means not least was the food. Cooked to a fantastic standard, all with locally-sourced ingredients, it was sublime. It is a little pricey, but frankly you get what you pay for and you do not mind paying the prices for the food on offer here. The breakfast was great, and I loved the toast made from homemade bread (usually feel very underwhelmed by homemade bread, but this was lovely).

Overall, a lovely place in a quiet corner of Somerset - we will definately be going back.

We spent a weekend in the Pilgrims. Although the rooms are quite small, they are finished to a very high spec. The matress was too comfortable - we didn't want to get up! The bathroom is fab too. Breakfast was one of the nicest ever. Very relaxed atmosphere. Would highly recommend the Pilgrims to anyone. A great base to visit Somerset and beyond. Thanks to Sally and Jools!
