“Perfect family and traveller place for Japan afficionados”
Reviewed May 25, 2012

We still look back very very fondly on our stay at Aizuya Inn! Friendly people, squeeky clean, cosy, nice people, moderate pricing, perfectly located to explore Tokyo by subway. The rooms are just big enough to fit the futons, but that's quite ok. You should be comfortable with Japanese slipper management (leave shoes in entry, put on slippers, slip off slippers in rooms and tatami places and change slippers in washrooms). The hostel is not spacious but looks spacious because of nice and very loving design. If you are an oversized person (width-wise), you might not feel so comfortable, length is not a problem (my husband and son are 2m and it wasn't an issue). There are enough showers and bathrooms, convenience stores right in the area (walking distance) and you can cook your own meals and have them in the very nice common area. If we are ever back in Tokyo on travel -- this is where we'll stay.
Things you want to bring:
- laundry detergent (if you are particular about what you want to use)
- a well packed bag (you cannot unpack -- you have to lived out of your suitcase)
- something to hang up your towels (string, a camping something / in German it is called laundry spider, it has one hook to hang it on the wall and several clothespins attached)

But really, the people are so friendy, any problem you have they will help you.
Have fun.

For the rate of private rooms here, the value is unbeatable in Tokyo. The hotel is on a quiet street, a short walk from the nearest train station. The bedding is comfortable and clean and the tatami mats are in good condition. The rooms are very small, although easily big enough for two people to sleep in. Our room had a large window, which let in plenty of light, reducing the box feeling that might have otherwise set in.

The showers downstairs are coin operated, although we stayed only one night and I didn't use them, so cannot say if they were worth the money. They were 100 yen for five minutes, which I wouldn't mind paying for, considering the value of the room. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The hallways and reception room are nicely decorated and set the place up with a beautifully calm atmosphere. The only down side (for some) would perhaps be its location, as it is a fair distance from central Tokyo. However, the nearest station is close, from which it is easy to get into Tokyo and explore. Highly recommended.

I had a great experience at Aizuya. The staff are friendly and informative. The entire place is immaculately clean and smells nice throughout. There is a general good vibe/spirit that gives it a home-like, comfortable feel. The rooms are very tiny, but it is Japan, so no complaints there! (It's to be expected.) The location is quiet and safe with close-promixty to sights, which adds to the value. Highly recommended!

The hotel is well located: A direct express from from the Narita airport stops at Minami-Senju station, which is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. So you won't be running around the city with bags. Very easy to find once on the station - just turn your google map upside down and it will correlate with the city info maps they have by the station. You need to change trains at Ueno to get to Tokyo Station (which is though just 5 stops away).
The hotel is extremely clean and very well decorated. Compared to other ryokan, that I stayed at the rooms are quite big (actually the biggest). Of other facilities they have free Wi-Fi, free DVD player rental (with DVDs included), TV, AC, bike and CELLPHONE rental.
IMHO, the VFM is extraordinary. I stayed at places in Japan much worse in quality for more money.
The hotel is expat staffed and managed, which is also a plus.

stayed here for 4 nights in early april, got a single tatami room, room is dusty, got a sneezing fit everytime i am there. the complimentary breakfast is in a small cafe across the room and you will get a bun, a toast, jam , a cup of soup & coffee/tea/juice.
proprietor is very strict in ensuring that the pc downstairs is turned off by guests after use.
the bathrooms are downstairs and cost 100 yen for a 5 min shower.
the place is about 10 mins walk from minami senju station. the walls are thin so expect to hear people talking at night if they decide to loiter around the corridor.
