“Nice location and good for the money”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

The location is great. It is situated across the JR Ueno station and 1 block from the main road in front of the station. It is closest to Tokyo Metro's Hibiya line, Ueno Station, in between exit 2 and 3 (I believe, as it has been a few days) For those with heavy luggages, there is an elevator between exit 2 and 3 that will take you to the street level. The hotel is also accessible via the elevated pedestrian walkway. I had the single room. It is smaller than I had imagined. The bathroom is smaller than the already small cruise ship bathroom. The bedding is a little old looking but the room/bed/bathroom are clean and good valued for the price and for the downtown Tokyo location, especially when it is so close to the station (about 6-8 mins to the JR ticket counter). the shower is powerful and the water is hot. The front desk people are courteous and speaks enough hotel related English. Get a password everyday if you want to access the wifi. There is a coffee store on the ground floor of the hotel that also serves food. There are several restaurants nearby but you get the best selection by going to the open air street market next to the station, starting at the OIOI store. English menu is limited at many of the restaurants.

The hotel is very well situated, literally 3 minutes from Ueno station which is an important one in Tokyo (you can go anywhere from there). The hotel is not situated next to the crazy (but nice) Ueno market but rather at the border with the working buildings, meaning you can enjoy the market and the station while having some peace and calm at the hotel.
The hotel room is small, of course you are in Tokyo. But really manageable especially for one person.
People at the reception speaks a decent English.
Good wifi (but the password changes every day and therefore you have to ask for it)

But even if the room was non smoking, I think some customers do not care about the interdiction and so when I arrived there was a strong smell of cigarette in my room and the same during all my stay in the corridor. That might be due to people smoking in non-smoking room or to the air conditioning which pipes might be shared between rooms

I stayed at this hotel for 6 nights in early July. At first night, the toilet shower (automatic spray which cleanses a body part) had already malfunctioned so I was switched to another room the following day. Then at my 4th night, after flushing the toilet, the water just kept on running, making noises the whole night. I should have asked them to fix it immediately but it's well past midnight & I was exhausted, so I just left it till the next morning. The problem was fixed eventually but maybe the hotel should start carrying out more regular maintenance check..

Overall the hotel staff are all really helpful - one helped me locate the nearest ATM online, and another helped me lift my luggage down to the road when I left.

If I do revisit Ueno, probably I wouldn't stay at this hotel again because it's not so well-maintained. Also the small fridge inside the room isn't cold enough. And it would be so much better if the hotel could provide guests with an electric pot instead of serving guests with a jar of hot water every day.

However, having said the above, I should give credit to the helpful hotel staff. Also having WiFi inside the room should deserve some more marks (just remember to ask the staff for password as it's changed every day).

I highly recommend this hotel in the ueno area of tokyo. It is 5 mins. from the main ueno station and 7/8 mins from the keisei line direct to/from narita airport. The staff are very friendly with good english communication. Rooms are small and basic but very good for the price in tokyo.
The area around is brilliant for local food/drink/shopping at reasonable prices.

A friend and I stayed at the Ueno Terminal Hotel for three nights in May 2012. We chose this hotel as it was close to Ueno train and subway stations and great value. We weren't disappointed. On arrival, the staff were warm and welcoming and spoke English to a high standard which was very helpful as our Japanese isn't that great. The twin room was relatively large with plenty of space for luggage, clothes and other posessions. It had a TV, a mini fridge and two desks. The bathroom was a little on the small side but the shower always had hot water at high pressure, so no complaints there.
The decor was a bit old, but the room and corridors were always clean. There were plenty of plug sockets in the room for charging our gadgets which is always a bonus and the Ueno Terminal Hotel are one of the few budget priced hotels to offer free wireless internet throughout the hotel which was so handy for planning what we were going to do.
Another nice touch were the complimentary 'yukata' sleeping robes that were provided to add that authentic feel to our stay.
Throughout the course of our stay the staff were always courteous and helpful. I have no reservations recommending this hotel.

Its only about 8-10mins to Ueno station, so taking the train isnt a problem. Ueno has some really nice japanese food around, as well as shopping and some sightseeing, so its a great place to stay for a couple of days in Tokyo! Free wifi in the rooms are definitely hard to come by in Tokyo, so its really a bonus since this little hotel has it.

I have mixed emotions about this hotel. The price is good, the location is very convenient, the staff is attentive, but the room wasn't nice. Directions: the hotel is in an alley, not a street. Exit the Asakusa exit, walk along the left, past the homeless, Family Market, cross the street to Fedex, cross the street again. Keep walking straight, past an alley. In the alley that has a banner sign that says something is on the 1st Floor, look down the alley. If you see a blue Sankyo sign in the distance, you are in the right alley. The hotel is on the right, just before the Sankyo.
My room had no view, just another building, but I'm sure other rooms have a view of something. The room had a musty odor until I turned on the a/c. I think people sneak pets into the rooms, as I had difficulties breathing. Note: on my way to this hotel, I did walk into another hotel for directions and that hotel looked pretty nice, but it was small and probably wasn't on the internet. I plan to stay in Ueno/Asakusa again, so hope I get a better hotel next time. I don't know why Travelocity charges 9 dollars a day for taxes and fees on this budget hotel. Other fees in Kumamoto were 3 dollars a day.
