Easy to find, less than a 10 minute walk from JR Ueno station along the main street, and similar to the Asakusa district. We stayed in a twin with ensuite, A/C, TV and minibar. The room was clean, the decor bland. Kitchen and PCs available. Lots of tourist information available and the friendly and excellent staff helped me to book tickets for the baseball and also what was open on the public holiday. Would recommend.

Small budget priced hotel near the Ueno train station, very friendly staff with a good command of English, rooms small but comfortable, free laptops in lobby, one staff suggested Oedo for sushi -don't miss.

This is a basic no-frills hotel, which provides you with all that you need at very reasonable prices. The staff is welcoming and very friendly, speaks really good English. But what makes it a treasure for travellers, is its GREAT LOCATION- which is one of the most important things to consider when travelling in Japan. Although it is very near Inaricho Station, we seldom use this station, as we prefer walking to Ueno Station, one of the Tokyo's major hubs. Ueno Sta and it's surrounding areas has everything you need! Museums, parks, shopping (Ameyoko), dining. Everything! The walk itself to and from, and around the area is very relaxing. The neighbourhood feels really safe, and is very very clean, even late at night. Lots of dining choices near the hotel, if you don't want to go further away. A lot of convenience stores too and 24 hour Sukiya, Yoshinoya and more! I cannot fault the location of this hotel, other than, we had a bit of difficulty finding it the first time. But that was it.

The bathroom is small, but well equipped and clean. The room is small but that's Japan ;-) Among the 4 hotels we stayed in Japan, this is the only one with CNN channel. They also provide Yukata which i really like.

Personally, the only not-so-good-thing about this hotel is the bed. The very hard spring bed bothered me at first. Feels like sleeping on the floor. A thin foam above the spring bed would have probably help me sleep better :-) Or probably the Japanese style futon would have been a better choice. But it didn't bother my daughter that much.

I would definitely recommend this hotel based on staff and location.

We' re a couple, who lives nearby munich and went to Japan this may for three weeks.
As we also took a trip to other cities during our vacation, we could experience several accommodations. Oak Hotel was for us best from price-performance ratio. First of all it's located near (7 min by walk) the Ueno station, where you can catch the yamanote loop line, so you can reach any part of tokyo optimally. And you have a metro station aswell just 2 min. from the Hotel. (so you can catch the metro-line to get to ueno station, if you don't want to walk, its just one stop). Second our room was very clean and we had such a nice housekeeper. Third Asakusa is very close (only 2 stops in the other direction, but we walked, so we could see more of the city ;)). You find there many shops round the temple and the skytree tower for example. And apart from that, you have many restaurants and convenient shops round the oak hotel aswell. From italian coffee (i recommend cafe veloce!) to many restaurants and markets all 3-6 min walk away. And last but not least they have an outstanding service and very friendly staff. For example i forgot my glasses when we checked- out. After arriving in munich, we checked our mails and had already become message from the oak- hotel, that they' ve found glasses in our room and wanted to know if they belonged to us. Thank you so much again for sending them! So, we really enjoyed our stay at the wonderful oak, would highly recommend it and they will definateley be again our choice, next time we come to tokyo! :)

Very nice and friendly staff! The location of the hotel is good. Inaricho station is just like 5 minutes away. And Ueno station is also within walking distance! If I should go back to Tokyo, I'd like to stay at Oak hotel again!

Oak Hotel is one of those places that you hear about all the time. Friendly, local, within reach of almost anything you want to get to or see. I'd not heard of Oak Hotel, but we were looking for a place to stay close to Asakusa, Ueno and actually had availability around the time of annual Sanja Matsuri. We JUST managed to secure a room and whilst the en suite bathroom was small (Bearing in mind that Japanese rooms are not as spacious as Western houses) it was adequate for our needs. The staff were so friendly and helpful, which was a massive relief as we'd landed in Tokyo at 7:20am that morning and couldn't check in until about 2-3pm!

There's no curfew on the hotel as you have your room's keycard to come and go as you please (Handy for those 4am McDonald's journeys!) and the staff throw parties too! All in all, my 5th time in Tokyo was all the more pleasant for staying there. I can't recommend it enough!

First of all, their Wi-Fi has a very strong signal. During these days of technology, this is very important for travelers. The hotel is near Ueno--a place where you can find a lot of restaurants and stores. It's in a perfect geographical location when you need a midnight ramen run. The room (especially the CR) is just small but it has everything you need. They clean the room everyday. They also have vending machines for some drinks. They do a Saturday night party for the guests. The best thing about Oak Hotel is its staff. They have really friendly and helpful hotel people who will guide you throughout your stay. You can ask them anything and they'll surely answer with a smile. They also have a bulletin board of basic instructions and things to do in Tokyo. Almost all the awesome tourist spots are covered.

This is my first Tripadvisor review and it's all because of my wonderful experience with Oak Hotel.
