“Small and Efficient”
Reviewed May 17, 2012

This is a very nice little modern hotel in an exceptionally convenient location. Rooms are small by European standards (amd even Asian standard!) but it had everything you need for a comfortable stay. The room was clean, modern and managed to fit even a small little bathtub in the mini bathroom! I am really impressed by the efficient use of space in these Japanese hotels. The hotel is located just 5mins from the Tokyo Metro (which houses a department store) and a mere 2 mins walk to the Sensoji Temple. There are small eateries, convenient stores and restaurants all around, so no worries about food. It is also a short walk to the Sumida Park, where you can take a nice stroll along the canal or even a river cruise. Service is good and staff polite and helpful. I didn't have any meals at the hotel as there are so many other options along the streets but food prices at the hotel is not that much more expensive than what you can get outside.

The hotel is very quiet and you can hardly hear any road noise although it is located along the main road. There is also free wifi in the lobby. All in all, a nice short stay (2 nights) and unbeatable location. I would definitely recommend it.

For the price paid, this hotel really had a lot going for it. Not only was it modern and clean, it was smack bang right next to one of the most interesting attractions in Tokyo, Senso-ji Temple and the attached Nakamise shopping street.

The rooms were typically small but space has been economised so everything you would need is at your fingertips. The bed is comfortable enough, and vending machines abound throughout the hotel. Strangely enough, every third floor has a vending machine with soft drinks, but every single floor has a beer machine.

With a high level of cleanliness and a slightly bigger bathroom than some other budget options, the Blue Wave is a comfortable place to lay your head.

Wifi is available only in the lobby only, and there are no English language television stations, so if you plan to relax in your room consider bringing a book.

Some other under rated sights are along the river which is only a short stroll away. These include the Asahi brewing company building - shaped like a giant glass of beer, the 'golden object' and the Tokyo skytree. The scene makes for some awesome photos. As with most parts of Tokyo, you are not far from a subway station and whilst Asakusa isn't on the JR line, the subway line will spit you out at various interchanges or even in Shibuya across the other side of the city with very little fuss.

One thing to be aware of that the shops in this part of Tokyo close relatively early and it's a very different vibe to Shinjuku or Ginza. The positive side is that the area is more relaxed and lends itself to strolling around traditional and historical Japanese sites. It's a different side of the city which reminds me more of Osaka than the rest of Tokyo.

I would stay here again, but would also consider a second hotel in a more frenetic part of the city for at least some of my stay too.

Room Tip: high floor rooms can have good views due to the low rise housing, some even look over the temple nex...

Blue Wave Inn Asakusa is really well located to underground, and local sightseeing, but perhaps feel a bit far away from other spots in Tokyo. Room really clean, tidy and okay for space, comfortable beds etc. but that is it. The rooms are of good price and perfect to stay if you are on a budget, and happy with the basics. I will most likely stay there next time I travel to Tokyo.

The Blue wave Inn Asakusa is a very nice Western-style hotel in the neighbourhood of Asakusa, literally 2 minutes away from Sensoji temple.

The location of the hotel is quite good, especially when you consider Tokyo's size. It's a 15 minute walk from both Asakusa subway and rail stations. The nearest major Yamanote (circle) line station being Ueno (2 metro stations away).

Asakusa is the closest to a traditional area that you'll find in Tokyo, with low rise buildings and small houses.

The Blue Wave is a medium-rise building and some of the rooms provide views of the temple and the brand new Tokyo Sky Tree. The rooms are OK-sized (for Japanese standards) and come equipped with a high-tech toilet bowl (Japanese-style).

There are no Western channels on TV but, with so much to see in Tokyo, I was barely at the room anyway.

The staff speaks sufficient English.

The hotel provides free WiFi internet.

Quiet neighbourhood, close to temple. Free WiFi available in lobby (very limited seating). Staff friendly and helpful; check in at 15:00 (no early access to room but they are happy to store your baggage if you arrive early). Room clean and reasonably spacious, decent partial view of temple from room. Breakfast buffet unremarkable in terms of choice or quality. 7-11 store within one block (international ATM machine). 5 minutes walk to Asakusa station.

Blue wave inn wasnt a great five star in asakusa, but it was a great base for our Tokyo trip. It is conveniently located just behind the famouse asakusa temple. I managed to get a night picture of famouse 雷門 when it is without any single person around. There are 2 convenient stores next to the hotel, and many noodle houses, beef rice open till past mid-night.

The rooms are clean, comfortable. The only draw back, we had a very early arrival in tokyo, When we arrived at the hotel at around 7:30 and asked if we could check in earlier so we can rest, the hotel insisted to check us in at 3pm unless we pay for early check in. We couldn't understand why they couldnt be more accommodating.

Hotel room clean and staffs overall quite attentive. Free wifi at lobby. Buffet nice but just abit expensive, Yen 1050. I think is worth as mostly eateries open after 11am surrounding this hotel.

Located near Asakusa station and just next to Sensoji temple.
