We visited Asukusa Cat Garden during early June 2013. It is a small, but cozy, room on the 6th floor of a building just north of Asakusa Station. The outside wall has large windows, and faces Tokyo Skytree (which is about 1km away), so the room is brightly lit and airy. The lady who runs it is very friendly and speaks English well. Adults are 800yen per hour, children 700... which is a little less expensive than other cat cafes in Tokyo. She also sells beverages and has free Wifi for guests. Unlike some other cat cafes -- Asakusa Cat Garden allows children under age 12. No appointments are necessary.
The cats were all very healthy and clean, and obviously very well cared for. We were able to get down on the floor and play with the cats, just like at home. There were some friendly out-going cats, and some cats who slept the entire time (you know how it is with cats!). We bought a couple bags of cat treats for 100yen each, and the cats gobbled them up. We also bought a couple drinks.
We stayed for our entire hour. Total cost was 2700 yen (about $27 US at the time). It was a nice diversion from all the running around seeing the tourist sites. If we ever go back to Tokyo, we will surely stop by again.
