“Old part of Tokyo”
Reviewed January 31, 2014

Excellent place to experience some old part of Tokyo. Those little shops are slightly for the tourists but you can buy some interesting souvenirs too. Different from going to places like Shibuya, Roppongi etc!! If you are visiting Tokyo for the first time then this place is a must. Perhaps not very good place for very young people(?).

“nice neighborhood in down-tempo Tokyo”
Reviewed January 30, 2014

There's a lot to see and do in this area of the great metropolis of Tokyo.
There are lots of more traditional shops specialising in furniture, flowers, knives, kitchenware. The perfect alternative for those who grow tired of the giant shopping malls.
Of course, the Senso Ji sanctuary is a big POI in Asakusa too. There are many shops around it with souvenirs and fair-style food.

“Loved Asakusa”
Reviewed January 29, 2014

Asakusa is a lovely area. It's a bit more traditional looking around the streets near the Kannon Temple and just has a really nice atmosphere. The street markets leading up to the temple are fantastic - lots of interesting things to look at, buy and taste! We stayed in the area as well, and really enjoyed it. Lots of restaurants and eateries local.

“Welcoming Temple and Neighborhood”
Reviewed January 28, 2014

This was one of two places we visited on a lay over for ten hours in Tokyo. We chose it on the recommendation of several people who told us it was a nice place to walk around. The Sensoji temple and surrounding buildings were lovely. We especially enjoyed walking around the neighborhood. Many of the streets are pedestrian only, making it very pleasant for strolling.

As first visitors to Tokyo, we were surprised by a couple of things. One was the huge number of bicycles that were in use. The other was how friendly and helpful local people were to us when we obviously were having trouble figuring something out such as the right subway or train to take. It made us want to return for an actual destination visit!

This is a great neighborhood for exploring. Yes, the shrine is neat, but the backstreets are even neater. The entire neighborhood seems to be dotted with little hole in the wall shops and restaurants. I love this place.
