“Just a large play-pen!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 5, 2012

This is about the worst museum I have ever visited. There are plenty of "hands-on" exhibits to play with and thousands of school-children on school trips to play with them and run around noisily when they are not playing. However, there are no explanations of anything in any language other than Japanese and the science connection is mostly obscure. As an adult, you will be bored: as a parent you will be frustrated by trying to explain the inexplicable to your children. No way is this place worth the entrance money.

“Nothing too special”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

Killed a few hours here on a Saturday afternoon. It was alright, but I think you really need some serious Japanese to get much out of it. The exception was the hands-on part in the second building. This was really fun and the most crowded part of the museum. We went on a cold Saturday afternoon and there were many families with young children hanging out in that wing. Not bad if you're in the neighborhood and have time to kill, but I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to visit.

“Natural History Education”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2012

This is a very good museum to bring your kids for an education of natural history of the earth and Japan. It will be a bit too noisy when there's several school bus arriving with kids full of energy and mischief. However, it would be better that they come and be amused and educated by wonders of the nature that we live in.

Foreigners are recommended an audio guide as there are few English explanations. However, if you already know the basics and just want to look at the fine dinosaur skeletons and as well as hundreds of stuffed animals, you'd have a great time. Recommended if you are on a bit longer stay in Japan and need somewhere to go to on a rainy day.

“Good for kids”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2012

An average museum that is better suited to kids, nothing of interest to see here for a traveling single adult unless your a real space junkie.
