“Good value”

They have very clean rooms. They serve very nice Japanese breakfast, value for money in-term of taste and volume. The amount is too much for us expect my husband, we cannot finish the food. The location is good with a few good restaurants, a family-mart just a minute away and there is one more 7 eleven store nearby and a supermarket next to the Iriya station. Every morning we can get very nice sushi from the supermarket. We used to walk to Asakusa which is about 15mins away. It is also very near Ueno park just a station from Iriya station.

Staff were very friendly, the man stayed up till 9pm and waited for me when I was due to arrive in Tokyo. Clean rooms and nice wash-room (with a lock) with large bath. The door is open all day and night so there are no curfews. The ryokan also had a small lift which was handy with my heavy bags.

Friendly, very welcoming staff host this Ryokan which is slightly off of the beaten track in a quiet residential area but also within a 5 min walk of Iriya station on the Hibiya line. Room was clean and spacious (by Japanese standards) with a fridge and en suite bathroom. Shower was perfect with water pressure that will pummel your skin and wake you up! Breakfasts ranged from simple thick toast (and i mean thick!) to a full Japanese breakfast, all food was excellent. A great find in a quiet neighbourhood away from the bustle of the city, perfect.

We stayed here for the start of our Intrepid tour, so we didn't actually pick it. But we were happy with it. The staff spoke enough English and the breakfast was like a dinner!! It's very near several mass transit stops. There are a number of cafes in the area and we also found a nice ramen noodle shop and a good sushi place. The rooms are traditional Japanese. There are private bathrooms. They are soooooo tiny, but they're clean and functional!

The location is good, close to Ireya subway station, Ueno station and the National museum. There are plenty of retaurants, bars and coffeee shops close by.

The rooms are traditional Japanese style with futons and bambo matting. Despite concerns about my back problems I found the futon comfortable. The rooms are simple but have mod-cons such as flat screen TVs, free wi-fi, kettles and A/C. The bathroom pods are tiny, but well equipped.

I enjoyed the shoes-off tradition and the style of this place. The staff were helpful and spoke some English. They even provide quality tea bags in the rooms.

The paper blinds are not effective at keeping the light out, if you prefer a darker room for sleep. I taped newspaper to the glass behind the blinds.

Room Tip: They all have charm.

I lucked out with this one: it was a really nice place to stay - so much so that I extended my visit past the original six days for another week. The location is excellent: the hotel is situated on the Hibiya line, about ten minutes from Asakusa Temple, and not far from Ueno Park. The Japanese-style room was a good price, large and clean, with good aircon. Laundry facilities, a big rooftop balcony, and a good ofuro on the main floor, open at all hours for private use. Free wifi, with reliable connection after the first night. It's the people who make a hotel, though, and the owners are easy-going people who create a good atmosphere. The Japanese breakfast was delicious.

I went twice to Sakura Ryokan while I was in Tokyo, in 2008 for 1 week in August and in 2012 for 1 week in March. And whe I come back to Japan, you are sure I am going there again.
Let me tell you that I definitely love this little hotel.
Ok, it is not luxurious, but tiny and lovely, and tipically Japanese in it's own way - seems to be between the '70s and the '80s. So lovely.
And clean. Always clean.
It has both Western style and Japanese style rooms, I tried only Japanese rooms anyway, because I do love tatami. Futons arte alway fresh and clean. The room has a teapot with some tea, coffee etc.
The bath. Japanese style, which a huge bathtube always full with hot water. Priceless.
The breakfast, if you pay a little extra, is prepared every morning by the owner's wife, a lovely lady. And since I am vegetarian, she was also so kind to cook a delicious Japanese vegetarian breakfast.
Remarkably, the ryokan is well placed, between the subway stop Iriya and Asakusa, and it is also near Ueno station (about 15 minutes on foot, and I have quite short legs...). All around useful shops and restaurants. And it is such a beautiful neighbourhood.
Did I say I love it?
The owner and his family and the whole palce will make you feel like if you are at home. It's really like home. You will definitely love it.
You must go there if you are in Tokyo.
