“Perfect many ways in Ueno !”
Reviewed January 26, 2014

The Location cant be better. 5 minutes walk from the JR Ueno Station and 1 minute to exit 1 and 2 of the Tokyo Metro ! Convenience stores across the street and many very decent to good restaurants within 200 metres as well as Japanese 24 hour fast food stores.

The Hotel is Handsome and well kept as with most of this chain. The rooms are small but well laid out and convenient. Cleaning staff are exceptional even by Japanese Standards.
Also , Beds and pillows great, and the blackout blinds can keep the room totally dark - so i sleep really well here.
The hotel is on a road intersection but you cant hear anything except the unusual ambulance, fire engine or police siren if they pass though. Incredible sound proofing !

Security is great even for a mid price hotel. Keys needed to lifts and entrance past midnight.
Womens only floor available too !

Staff is very professional helpful and efficient with one exception - she is only efficient ! LOL !

Pricing is strange .... generally sunday to thursday nights its much much less than fridays and saturdays when prices can be more than 50% more.

I have stayed here more than a dozen times and its my first choice on this side of Tokyo.

Room Tip: check their website to compare prices on other booking sites. For more than three days they offer...

Rooms are small but convenient. Double Bed was firm and comfortable. Modern and clean place. Great location near a subway entrance and a few minutes from the narita shuttle. I haven't tried their breakfast so I can't comment on that.

A bit expensive but this is Tokyo for you.

Overnight in Tokyo: Ueno is convenient for transport between plane and train, an interesting neighborhood in its own right, and close to the draws of Asakusa. The hotel is clean, comfortable, and an easy stone's throw from Ueno station. For Tokyo, decent value for money ($125/night for single)...comparable to a typical Marriott Courtyard. I won't hesitate to return.

This is a really smart little hotel located near Ueno JR station and even closer to the Metro entrance. What travelers have to remember is that this is central Tokyo one of the most expensive cities in the world so don't expect big rooms. Despite the size, the rooms were comfortable and reasonably quiet.
The quality of English among the staff was mixed - ranging from excellent to really poor. In most cases though they really made an effort to help.
Bear in mind that Tokyo is not a luggage friendly city so be prepared to carry your bags up and down stairs - there are some lifts, but you might not find them conveniently located.
One bonus is that there are a lot of little eateries nearby. If you like to explore local culture through food, there were lots of yakitori and ramen shops within 5 minutes walking distance.

The hotel is very conveniently located as we travelled from Narita airport ( direct via Skyliner without any transfers, which is great if you have many suitcases) to Ueno station. Takes about a 10-15min walk to the hotel.
It is just a 5 min walk to the Ueno JR Station. From here, travelling to other parts of the city is a breeze.
The room we had was simple but clean (as with most hotels in Japan).
Definitely worth the stay!

You can see Ueno station from Mitsui Garden Hotel Ueno. If you know the path you can schlep your bags between station and hotel along with nothing but flat ground and elevators. Take the Skyliner from Narita and stop in Ueno – don’t go any other way.

We got the second price level room for more space and it was worth it. There are no drawers for clothes; enjoy your suitcases. There are two Japanese language and one English language newspapers by the elevators. There were enough to be certain you could read one.

The staff is typically Japanese friendly and wanting to help. Their English is a work in progress but suffices. They have a problem with obvious Caucasians speaking Japanese. This is a typical fault because prototypical gaizins speaking Japanese is such a surprise it is hard for them to understand it is Japanese (my wife is Japanese and I do speak it well enough).

We had one problem and I think the fault is younger staff not as spot on as senior Japanese hotel staff. We had two very heavy bags and wanted to get them shipped to Narita. (This is extremely convenient and I highly recommend the shipping. You pick up in the departure terminal.) We asked how much in advance we needed to ship, we asked again the next day, and on the third day we asked by what time we needed to ship. The staff gave us wrong answers three times because they did not check with the shipping company and they did not know that at New Year time the rules are different. In the end we got an apology but no help getting the bags to Ueno station.

There are lots of Chinese guests that spoil the polite Japan experience. The associated restaurant is good. I’d stay here again.

Great location next door to a coffee shop and next door but one to entrance to the metro and short walk across an elevated walkway to Ueno station which has various lines to destinations across Tokyo.

Clean, modern and well maintained. Our standard double room was on the small side by international standards although what we expected for a city where space is such a premium. It wasn't uncomfortably cramped.

We were recommended Ueno by a local resident and concur it's a good base for a couple with baby to explore Tokyo's tourist sites, have open spaces nearby and access to/from Narita airport.
