“Convenient but tiny”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Great location, but rooms are tiny and beds are even smaller, tall persons and broader persons cannot share the bed or room. Bathroom is also very small. Beds are old. Single rooms are more acceptable. Hotel needs upgrading badly. Inspite of all these, it is still clean, convenient, staff are friendly. Best of all is, it is next to a 24hrs convenient store.

Room Tip: Great for solo travelers or friends who choose to stay single rooms.

Not sure if this hotel is under new management or what, but words cannot describe what an awful experience we had here. We were recommended this hotel by someone who had stayed previously. What we found was a far cry from what we were described. This hotel is dirty from top to bottom. There is no excuse for it. More importantly it's unsafe. There is mold growing a foot high in the rooms. We had a very large group (15 people) and so we got put all over the hotel. Almost everyone of our 7 hotel rooms had mold growing in the showers and the walls of the entrance halls. And three of the had mold up the walls next to the beds. there was grime on the walls and doors. Disgusting! I'm attaching photos to this review. Also, on a slightly less gross note, the staff is surly and the common areas, including where breakfast is made in the morning, are also dirty. It's in a nice neighborhood, but the hike to the train is just that and good luck finding the laundry mat if you need it (i think the hid it on purpose).

As someone already pointed out, it's a no frills hotel. Not to say it's a dump, but it could probably do with a bit of revamp, and it's defence it's a business hotel. Despite this, it's in a great location, only 4 stops to Shinjuku, about 5mins walk from the Ikebukuro station, the staff are all very friendly and helpful whenever possible. They don't a lot of English but it was enough to get by and with my very very limited Japanese, communication wasn't a problem. Would recommend if looking for affordable accommodation or constrained by a budget. It's a good place though, has to be noted.

Hotel is located within 10 minutes walking distance from Ikebukuro station west exit. Not too near to all the happenings as most of the activities are located east of Ikebukuro station. I love the free internet access as I'm on a free and easy trip and needs constant access to information on places I like to visit. My room is a bit small, my wife and me placed our 2 large size laggages side by side and it has already taken up most of the spaces, leaving only one chair useable, one of us have to sit on the bed. Overall a no frill hotel though.

This was the first hotel we stayed in on our Japan trip. It is a 8 minute walk from the Ikebukuro station. The area it is in is pleasant with a variety of convenience stores, restaurants, take away food joints and even a drycleaners up the road.

Our twin room was a decent size and was clean and well provisioned. Shampoo, conditioner, body soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair brush, green tea with a cute flask boiler etc all provided in the room. Free coffee is available from the small lobby. There is also one computer in the lobby that costs 100 yen for 10 minutes.

I stayed here for 4 nights with my mom and I was initially a bit worried about the place as the lobby is very small and old and my mum is quite fussy about where she stays. Luckily our room was very pleasant and quiet.

Drawbacks was that the staff did not speak english and the older gentleman that ran the front desk was not particularly friendly or helpful.

Overall it was a great stay for the price we paid. I would go back again, especially as Ikebukuro is a great base to explore the rest of Tokyo.

This hotel is located in Ikebukuro, north east of Tokyo. Some staff speaks English. It looks like it’s a family run business. Breakfast is a choice between western or Japanese. Unfortunately, it’s almost the same menu everyday. The rooms not extremely small as I had initially feared but at a reasonable size. There is an elevator in the hotel. Check in is 3pm while check out is 12pm. The ladies who clean your rooms are extremely polite. The toilets come with those butt spray gadgets. There is a large wide screen LCD TV in every room. All channels are in Japanese. 2 adults only channels which you have to pay if you want to watch more than the 5 seconds auto preview. There is no safe nor is there a DVD player. There is a coin operated washing machine and dryer at the back of the hotel. Japanese pyjamas are provided daily. There is a small fridge under the table, a telephone and a hot cup water heater. The air conditioning can also act as a heater during winter. The rooms with the best view are the twin rooms. The internet requires you to use a LAN cable but there is also wireless internet which requires some configurations. There is a large convenience store right next door to the hotel and a hardware store a few blocks away. There are many places to eat here such as KFC and McDonalds. I recommend First Kitchen which is opposite KFC because it is less crowded there and the fries are fantastic. The location of this hotel is not too near or too far from the JR Ikebukuro station. It’s about a 5 minute walk. My advice when in Tokyo is to always stay in a major city so that you can enjoy the express trains like the Saikyo lines. Avoid staying in Shinjuku and Shibuya which is way too crowded and uncomfortable for some people. Ikebukuro is more manageable and less madness.

  • Liked — Cost. peace, convenience, frienlyness, nearby faciliies.
  • Disliked — no english tv. porn tv.

Very near to the ikebukuro station once you get the exit right. Good alternative stay to Shinjuku for the location and price. Next door is a 99Yen convenience shop, nice free coffee in the small hotel lobby. Staff understands English, rooms very clean (typical of all Japanese hotels) /good size. Non-smoking rooms didnt smell of cigarette smoke unlike some other business hotels.

  • Liked — convenient location, very clean smoke-free rooms
  • Disliked — nil
