“A reasonable hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

We stayed in this hotel in Tokyo for 2 nights. The location is very good, close to Ibebukuro station which was easy to access from central Tokyo. We had booked a non smoking room but were given a smoking room and were unable to change, we were told, because there were no non smoking rooms left. The room didn't smell of smoke but the whole floor did and was pretty unpleasant. We booked this hotel because it had a gym but when we arrived we were told we had to pay quite a lot extra to use it. However, the room was clean and the bathroom was sufficient for a city break. There is an excellent piano bar on the top floor with great staff and really excellent restaurants in the surrounding area.

We went to Tokyo during golden week so hotel prices and options were limited. I picked this hotel based on our budget and was pleasantly surprised! It was extremely convenient to train and other major train lines and the food and bar options were great. Went to two great resturants close to hotel that were excellent and places were really friendly. After being turned away frm bars in both roppongi and golden gai for being tourists we found great little places in our neighborhood that were happy to have our business. The whole area was much more down to earth and friendly then other areas. The hotel itself was basic but bigger then other rooms we stayed in Japan. Hotel staff was not overly helpful but spoke English enough to get by. Overall this location ended up being a great option!

Pratical and comfortable stay, allowing an easy move around the Tokyo city to catch a maximum of sights.
Standard rooms a bit tiny but was expected, clean and functional. Breakfast wasn't included with the rate, received vouchers daily for a reduced price of their buffet which was very good and offered both western and asian type breakfast choices. Shops are part of the complex and a spa which we tried out for a pedicure and massage both very good and relaxing at European prices.

Although the selection of in house restaurants are available, they remain pricey and one can find many cafés and restaurants in the area serving excellent food! Be mindful of times however as they don't cater 24/24 and evening service is till 22:00 must be present around 21:00 at the very latest and before depending of meal.

Worth a try for the splendid night light views of the city it has to offer is the piano bar located on the 25th floor.

Then if anyone wants to spoil themselves to some "Kobe Beef" there's just the place that serves it here too!

Just a tip, make sure to have some cash before coming as not always easy to find International distributer machines to get cash, which can be found in the financial district within International Banks. Many small shops and restaurants don't go or accept credit cards so this can easily become a problem!

One day metro passes are great and cost around 10$, prepare for a lot of walking.

Loved Tokyo for it's vibrant energy along with it's distinct orderly hustle and bustle and efficient and kind humbleness -Only wish to go back there and visit more parts of Japan :-) to

We were booked in with a group for four nights and as we opted to have an extra night in Tokyo stayed on for an incremental room cost of £200 (This room rate did not include breakfast and neither did the group's). Having done over a dozen of these group around the world holidays this was probably the best hotel the company has put us in. I strongly recommend it.

The Metropolitan is in an ideal location next to Ikebukuro railway station. This a main terminus including the express train from and to Narita airport and metro/local train centre. This we found daunting at first but learnt to use it to both explore the city and to venture out into the country by ourselves. Even crossing the complex is a challenge in navigation!

The locality is busy, if not frentic and perfectly safe. There are innumerable bars, cafes and restaurants around. The shopping opportunties are mind blowing and I don't like shopping!

There is also an excellent limo bus service direct to the airports which is a a model of effeciency and courtesy. This starts when you deposit your bags on checking out of the hotel in the morning. Luggage is secured, netted and put out for exactly the right bus, having bought a ticket beforehand.

t's a quality hotel with several restaurants, good rooms, and very clean. The personable staff speak good English and are very helpful and polite. They operate a thoughtful room linen change etc service in the bedrooms.

The bedroom came equipped with a fridge and kettle/beverage making facilities, which was very useful. We did not eat in the hotel at all and for breakfast either bought it outside, or to eat on a train if travelling a disatance or to eat in the bedroom. There is a superb bakery, staffed by charming girls, on the ground floor in the hotel which we continued to indulge with.

The Metropolitan is in an ideal location next to Ikebukuro station, which is a main terminus including the express train from and to Narita airport (there is also a limo bus service direct to the hotel if you have a lot of luggage). It's a quality hotel with several restaurants, good rooms, free newspaper each morning and very clean. The staff speak good English.

The only minor drawback we found was that, like other hotels in Japan I've stayed in, the room rate does not include breakfast and the cheapest breakfast at the hotel was 2,500 Yen (around £18.50 GBP) each. However, there are plenty of cafes nearby where we breakfasted for around 1,000 Yen each. Also the price to use the pool & gym put us off using it because we only wanted to use the pool.

However, we would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: We had two stays at the Metropolitan, each in a different type of room. Superior double rooms are o...

oh don't get me wrong... this is a NICE hotel. And we only stayed one night, the last night of our holiday, so it was just a quick base to do our last minute bits of Tokyo before heading for the train. But we'd stayed at the Hotel Nikko earlier at a much better rate and had a great time there so I was expecting MORE I guess.

Its a great location - a couple of mins at most out of Ikebukuro Station (through the Metropolitan Plaza) which is on the Yamanote line and perfect for using up that JR Rail Pass. We also caught the Narita Express from there too so getting back to the Airport with luggage was a breeze, no need for the Limobus and yes, free on the JR pass.

We had a triple room, so a twin single plus added bed. The beds were comfortable.. but the room was noisy. It was like we heard every footstep of everyone in every other room and corridor. And I guess lack of sleep isn't what you want just before you're flying home. We got a superior room so had free wi-fi in the room (the only place we stayed that did) so that was a bonus. And we did the buffet breakfast - ~$25 so was fine although some of the choices weren't to our taste. Buts that's the way with buffets hey? And being right next to the station and its multiple dept stores there are heaps of places to eat, whatever style you want.

So lovely hotel, clean, service at check in was good, but the noise levels (and a smallish room and bathroom) let it down a little for us.

Room Tip: some rooms (eg: superior) have free wi-fi

Room is a bit small but then it may be considered average in Japanese standard. Experienced really commendable services with a smile from reception and conceige staff which made our stay very memorable. Together with our friends, we requested for non-smoking rooms but none of us got it. The hotel was busy !! Locality is great with a good variety of restaurants of reasonable prices within close vicinityof hotel. We have enjoyed our stay there except for the smoking rooms we had to bear with. Of course the limousine bus service to airport was very convenient and we really appreciated the availability of this service.

Room Tip: if you are really allergic to smoke, please ensure you get one.
