It was better as a Crowne Plaza

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Feb 11, 2013
This hotel used to be a Holiday Inn Crowne Plza. The service was better and the staff more attentive to your needs. Now, they are very abrupt and dismissive of Westerners. The location is great in the Akihabira district. All the trains are here and you can metro or train to almost anywhere in Japan. The shopping is great and only a 5 minute walk away. The sushi and ramen restaurants are everywhere and each one delicious.

Good location & not too busy. The room was small but well set out. The housekeeping did a really good job. The rooms & bathroom were super clean. The station & department store are right in front of the hotel.

While I'm not so cranky about a place to sleep (other than has to be very clean), I got a mixed feelings of this hotel.
Good:
1. Good value, I booked a room for 3, stayed 4 nights, about USD 200/person.
2. Relatively clean.
3. Friendly and quick to assist staffs; this is Japan, what more do you expect? :)
4. Close to Ikebukuro station; JR and subway, ready to transport you all over Tokyo
5. Good bakery shop; I miss the canales so much
6. Close to convi store and common eating places
7. There are 3 shopping malls inside Ikebukuro sta., where you can find everything
8. Airport limo from/to Haneda and Narita stops here
Not so good:
1. Kind of old; while it's well kept, somehow I think they need a facelift
2. Room is too small for 3; I'm familiar with Japanese hotels, but still I think it's too small
3. Ikebukuro surrounding; many young males around, which somehow brought me uneasiness
I didn't try their breakfast but there was always long queue for buffet lunch.
It wasn't actually a bad experience but maybe next time I will try to find more alternatives.

This is the second time for me to stay in this hotel and the location is really nice (Only a one-minute walk to the JR station and shopping malls). The service is excellent and they provide free internet service as well.

Excellent location to train station and shops. The room size good and well set out. The staff were excellent. Housekeeping did a great job and the rooms and bathroom were very clean. View out of the window was of Mount Fuji. Excellent shops and bakery in the Hotel.I will stay there again.

Room tip: We had a Twin room on floor 20 which gave us a view of Mount Fuji from the window.

This hotel is located right next to Ikebukeru station as well as loads of places to eat. The rooms were fine, mine was certainly big enough for a single traveller with one suitcase but as it was a twin, may be too small for a couple. The staff were extremely helpful and courteous and spoke a decent level of English. I didn't eat at the hotel restaurants so can't comment on the quality of the food but I did try out the bakery and found the products to be delicious.
There is a Tobu dept store next to it and it has a huge variety of restaurants to try out.
If you can, get a room as high up as possible because the view of Mt. Fuji on a clear winter morning is unforgettable. I just wish I had a better camera.
All in all, I would go back to this hotel.

Room tip: As high as possible. They are quieter and have a great view.
