My girlfriend and I (mid-twenties) stayed at the Kimi Ryokan Spring 2003. Pros: cute residential neighborhood, very cheap for Tokyo, community room, clean (like everywhere in Tokyo), Japanese (mats on the floor). Cons: Japanese (mats on the floor); shared shower/toilet facilities, location (I disagree with the other reviewer. We stayed here, in Shinjuku, and in Shibuya--Shinjuku and Shibuya is where it's at. Ikebukuro is a cute but sleepy residential neighborhood. But the other neighborhoods are easily accessable from the subway, maybe 20 mins + 5-10 min walk if I remember correctly), and while we were there it was freezing at night (I think the window was broken and would not shut all the way).
Bottom line: A good, cheap Japanese experience. Very good for the money.
