Certificate of Excellence

I have stayed at the Kimi Ryoakan on and off since 1995, and it has always delivered an excellent stay. This most recent visit was no exception, it is not surprising to learn that the Kimi has an excellent rating awarded by tripadvisor.com

With the (fairly) new Fukutoshin line Ikebukuro station opening close by, four minutes walk from the ryokan, this location is now very accessible, speedily, for the tourist attractions of Harajuku, Omotesando dori, Meiji jingumae, and Shibuya. The Fukutoshin line also connects with the Minato Mirai subway line, so an easy trip to Sakuragicho can be made (there are alternative routes from Ikebukuro though). The Keisei Skyliner express train connection from nearby Nippori station on the Yamanote line is a very convenient and swift way to get to and from Tokyo Narita International Airport.

Room Tip: The ryokan staff are very friendly and charming, so why not be charming and friendly in return?

We stayed here for 12 nights and we can recommend it to others that want to experience a japanese style Inn, and at the same time, save some money you can spend on other things in Tokyo. Its a budget stay, but a cosy, clean and quiet one. Many people stayed here on longer terms, and many students. We are a couple in our forties, but enjoyed staying here. The staff were friendly and helpful, we miss them. One of the great facilities was a japanese bathtube made of cypress, which you could sink down in and relax after a long day in the big city. There were also a roof terrace, were you could enjoy your breakfast and so on. We will definitely stay here again if we are so lucy we get the chance to go toTokyo again. It´s not a luxury place but I´ll give it a full score because it´s the best value for money you can get, and we loved the staff.

10 minutes walking from tube station the hotel has a self-catering kitchen where you can prepare your meals and store your food in the fridge. The room's soundproof is not good, couple of times we thought someone was open our door. The staff is friendly and helpful.

The ryokan was easily accessible from the Ikebukuro station - probably a 5 minute walk. The rooms and shared bathrooms were clean. The staff was helpful when we had questions, but did not go out of their way to make us feel comfortable.

We did not realize the "value" of the stay until we stayed at another hotel later in the trip for the same price, but not as nice an accommodation.

The walls are quite thin - you will hear your neighbours and folks walking up and down the passageway.

Also, lack of a breakfast option can be a little annoying. You have to go scout the neighbourhood pretty early in the morning (especially if you are jet-lagged).

We stayed for four nights in a 4.5 tatami room. We had a mixed experience that leads me to say I would recommend other area hostels over staying at Kimi.

Pros:
- Location: near large transportation hub. Everything available nearby that you could need.
- Free Wifi: worked well in our third floor room.
- Room Size: was worried 4.5 would be small for two people, but built in storage to store bags helped to make the room more comfortable.
- Inexpensive: really, really cheap.

Cons:
- Noisy: you can hear everything from the other rooms day or night...
- Common areas: the kitchen and bathrooms weren't very clean and both very out of date and poorly laid out.

The best way I can describe the stay was that it wasn't a place that I looked forward to returning to each night.

We stayed 12 nights at Kimi, and we can without hesitation recommend it.

As long as you realize that this is a very basic accommodation you will not be disappointed.
The staff is extremely friendly and helpful.

Guestrooms and all other areas like showers are very clean.

It is located in a very quiet area, no noise from traffic at night.

Arrived at this Ryokan midnight, clear instructions on their website and email support. Great price for a Ryokan experience and even better location for sightseeing in Central Tokyo. Free WIFI! Pajamas and towel provided, toiletries free to use. Clean shared bathrooms.
