Having sampled many Italian restaurants outside of Europe we were excited to try the best reviewed in Tokyo but were ultimately disappointed. The food was ok with the exception of the pork roll pasta which was lovely. One of the biggest disappointments was the wine. Considering that this is run by an Italian we would have expected some sort of wine list or information about what we were ordering other than red or white. It was quite expensive compared to other restaurants we went to and were presented with very small glasses. The wine itself was ok but again probably the least good we’ve had in Japan. Certainly not a place to avoid but nothing special and not the best Italian in Tokyo.

I know it is strange coming to Japan and going to Italian but we had been told by a local that the food was exceptional and they weren't wrong. The owner is passionate about his food and restaurant and if you fancy a western meal while in the far east i highly recommend.

Great break from Japanese food while visiting Tokyo. We started with a salad and salumi plate. Then 2 pasta dishes, including a lasagne. It was all delicious! The place is quaint, full of Italian decorations, and a staff made up of Italian and Japanese folks. Great place for Italian food.

A visit to Trattoria dei Paesani is a MUST! It is like entering Italy as soon as you enter the space. From the chilli hanging from the ceiling, to the fridges FILLED with prosciutto and a variety of salumi, I doubt you will find any other Italian restaurant in Tokyo quite like this. Zii Peppe, Davide and the team have transformed this space into Abruzzo and filled it with their passion for the Italian region. The food is 100% organic and made with love. I visit Italy every year and my husband is from Abruzzo and finding quality of a similar level to this is not easy! Try this unique and delicious experience - and make sure you get a tagliere to taste Zii Peppe's very own style ventricina, not to mention the fiadone, scallops with saffron and creamy polenta...Top quality and an absolutely divine experience!!

The quality of the restaurant is outstanding. The chef is Italian and this is a review written by an Italian who has visited Japan for 2 weeks and this is by far the best restaurant I have been. They have home made ham, salami, bacon, and vegetables; home made pasta etc etc etc. The selection of wines is also impressive. Don’t miss the opportunity to dine there.
