This hotel is located in Kabukicho which is said to be the red light district in Tokyo. I think the location was still very quiet and there was nothing to be worried about. It's only about 15 minutes walk from Shinjuku station and there's also one other station a little closer. There's huge variety of restaurants if you walk 5 minutes from this hotel. I think the location couldn't be much better. We paid 9240 yen for a double room.

The rooms are small but clean. Breakfast is included in the price but it wasn't so good. Staff is friendly and most of them speak english. There's free internet in the lobby.

If I come to Tokyo again I would definitely stay here again.

I've stayed at this hotel a number of times and always choose it due to the fantastic location and unbeatable price in the best area of Tokyo! The hotel is a little bit of a walk from the East exit of Shinjuku station, but the area really isn't that seedy and certainly never feels dodgy. You're right in the heart of the shopping and sights of Shinjuku, whilst also next to the trainline for exploring other areas.

The rooms are exactly the same as all the other Toyoko Inn rooms so you know exactly what you are getting - clean, comfortable, compact, with everything you need - TV, hairdryer, toiletries, towels etc and an ensuite bathroom. The service at the hotel is always great, like most Japanese hotels - and I love the rice balls and miso soup breakfast! I stayed here with friends, but also with my parents (60s) and they loved the area, and especially the price.

I'd definitely recommend a stay here - especially if you want to be in the heart of the action of Tokyo.

During our week in Japan, we stayed at three Toyoko Inns. All of the locations were great and we would probably stay at each again. They all offer a small but clean room at a reasonable rate that includes a free breakfast, small flat-screen tv, LAN cable for internet access, small refrigerator, air conditioner/heater, nightgown/slippers, hot pot with tea, etc. They also offer free internet stations, telephones for local calls, and laundry facilities in the lobby. Female guests should ask to receive the complimentary cosmetic kit (skincare samples) upon check in.

If we had to choose though, this location was probably our least favourite of the three. Though we loved the hustle and bustle of the Shinjuku neighborhood, the location of this particular hotel was not as convenient as other hotels we'd stayed at. The red-light atmosphere was not a problem, but we had a little difficulty in finding the hotel and it turned out to be a 10-15 minute walk from the JR station (though as others have mentioned, you could take a subway if you wanted to avoid the walk).

In addition, this hotel was the largest of the hotels we stayed at, but also slightly older and dingier than the other two. We opted to sleep in one morning and bypass the daily room cleaning (we cleared this with the front desk the night before). In doing so, we discovered that during the 10am-4pm period that the hotel asks guests to stay away, the hotel is cleaned by teenagers and the halls are full of dirty linens, noise, and general chaos.

It's also worth noting that local calls are free in the lobby but will be charged if made from your hotel room. There's probably a japanese sign in the room that explains this, but we clearly learned this the hard way.

As mentioned above, we would stay here again because we loved Shinjuku and have enjoyed our experiences with the Toyoko Inn. But it's worth noting the distinction between this location compared to others.

We arrived at the hotel (finally)...it was hard to find amongst the many love hotels in the area! Can only check in at 4pm (we were 3pm because we'd booked through a member) which was frustrating after an entire day of travelling from Glasgow. We went a wander at night and obviously stumbled into the host club territory. People have said in the past that they were not bothered by the area and to be honest I wasn't either. One night we had a man come up to us and make a bit of a lewd comment in English but that was it. The hotel staff were ok for the most part. They had said we could leave our bags whilst going to Fuji Rock as we were coming back to the hotel for a night after that anyway. But the day we went down to leave our bags the woman did not understand/speak English. We found out how exactly to say our request in Japanese and another woman took our bags. Meanwhile the other woman we had dealt with earlier decided that she could/speak understand English as she dealt with the same request from 2 Australians! This was incredibly annoying! The free ladies cosmetic set etc was great and couldn't fault the place really. It was a bit away from Shinjuku station (we had JR passes) but was close to the subway. It might have felt longer due to the heavy backpacks we were carrying though! Free internet was great, although most hotels in Japan haven't quite the same WIFI service as we do at home. They tend to just provide an internet cable (no use for an Ipod Touch) .

Would definitely recommend this hotel

I have stayed at Toyoko Inn's in a number of locations in Japan and even have a Toyoko Inn Membership card. They are what they are...all rooms are basically identical, the hotels are identical and the service is usually good. You know what you are getting and you are getting a reasonable price.

The last stay at this hotel however was not up to par. The air conditioning unit was absolutely filthy-obviously has not been cleaned in months and was covered in grime/debris. If you looked up high on the unit (which is where the air intake is) the grime was obvious. I used one of the towels to clean the unit and the towel was black after a few swipes of the unit.

I did not complain at the front desk-perhaps I should have but I did not want to make waves and my Japanese is not that great, but clearly someone at that particular hotel is not on top of the housekeeping duites.
