“Nice Hotel”

The hotel staff are very helpful and friendly. Good location and a lot to do in the area around it. Rooms are clean but small, which really does not matter as I used the room to clean up and sleep. The rest of the time I am enjoying Shinjuku.

I stayed here for one night at the end of my two weeks holiday in Japan. Great location in Shinjuku and pretty decent hotel from a value point of view. Facilities were good, room size ok (don't expect big rooms in Japan - you just don't get them). Breakfast was a bit hit and miss (more miss) but no big shakes. Good value, straightforward - typical hotel in Japan. Recommended.

This is a great hotel for the budget minded traveler. It is clean, comfortable and has good service. It is within walking distance of the train station and there is a shopping mall nearby as well as good restaurants all within walking distance. There is also a Buddhist shrine down the street which is very peaceful!

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the opposite side from the street. The rooms are more quiet.

This is part of the Toyoko Inn chains specializing in budget accommodations for businessmen. If you've stayed in a Toyoko Inn before, you know what to expect, down to the disposable foot slippers. There's a clean bed, TV, Toto toilet with the bidet options and a Japanese-style deep tub with great shower. Breakfast is very basic carbs and caffeine (rice balls or bread with coffee and tea) and some fixings.

The best part of this Toyoko is its location close to Shinjuku station in an interesting neighborhood. Be warned: Shinjuku is a monstrous station so come armed with a map. If you're familiar with the layout and don't mind the eccentricities of the neighborhood, this is great value for the price.

There wasn't anything overly spectacular about this place other than it was a modest room and a really decent price.

What somewhat concerned me, and had I known this before I went (I did not book the room) I might have changed hotels. The hotel is right near the heart of Kabuki-cho and if you don't know what that means... take a minute to Google it! Granted that after dinner I had my boyfriend to walk with but I would feel utterly uncomfortable walking to this place on my own because you walk by hundreds of business fronts for prostitution- uhhh I mean massage parlors and Karaoke Bars. There are 2-3 guys on every EVERY street corner and at least 2 in front of each business keeping an eye out. If you are traveling alone, please look up the map before hand so you don't find yourself lost among these streets ( Guys AND Gals beware- the men will grab guys who walk either alone or in packs to get them to come into their clubs, and ladies, the stares you will get will make your skin crawl)

That being said, the hotel staff were are sweet and helped me make a diagram for the air conditioner controller since, at one point, I had turned on the heat!

I would stay again, and now that I see there are other Toyoko Inns, I'll be more inclined to stay in one!

Room Tip: Yes, there is free breakfast but it's nothing to write home about.... unless you like rice balls...

If you have stayed in Toyoko-Inn before, then you should know what to expect. Clean rooms at modest prices. It is the same as all other Toyoko-Inns. I have no complaints. Except that Tokyo was really hot during our stay and the hotel corridors are not air-conditioned.

The location is very good. It is at Kabukicho close to Shinjuku. If you are arriving with luggage, then make use of Higashi-Shinjuku station which is much closer and has escalators to help you move your luggage upstairs (but not down).

There is a Don Quijote shop not far away in Okubo area which opens 24 hours for all your shopping needs and I mean ALL.

We use this hotel for the 2nd and 4th nights of our stay. For the 3rd night we went to Hakone, so we left our big luggage here and the reception was happy to take it.

Overall, a good budget option in a good location.

Just 10 minute walk to the JR Shinuku station. It's a good option for us since we usually take the JR trains out of the city for a day trip. There is also a subway and a Tokyo metro line nearby. Very near shopping areas, Uniqlo, Isetan, Takashimaya, etc. Across the JRShinjuku station on the West side, you'll also find a small quaint street with yakitori stalls (Omoide Yokocho). The hotel is actually just at the edge of Kabuki-cho which is actually considered one of the wildest red light district, but the street where Toyoki Inn is actually just off the main road. When you go on the smaller streets from the main road during the day, the place is actually asleep. It only goes alive during the night. You'll see a lot of people on the streets, but they generally leave you alone. We would walk home from the JR station along the main road every night and we never felt unsafe. The streets are well lighted. There is a 7-eleven just off the main corner near the hotel.

The rooms and bathrooms are small, but is average by Japanese standards. It's hard if you have large luggage but they say you can put this under the bed. Yes, but they don't really offer a lot of space for the stuff you take out of your luggage, only 3 hangers on a rod on the wall. So even if you can put your luggage under the bed, you still have to pull it out every so often to take/put your stuff. Single and double economy are pretty much the same with a double/queen bed so paying for the double economy seems to be not worth it. If you are two people, get the 2 single beds instead for more space. The room and bathroom is pretty clean. They also offer cleaning every 3 days instead of every day for a discount on the room. Even if you choose this eco mode, you still get fresh towels and tea bag refill which is hang on your door. I think this is really cool.

The lobby is small but spacious (no seating area) but is extended with an eating area with a lot of small tables and a bar counter. It's basically the breakfast area in the mornings and a waiting area the rest of the day. They have a water dispenser and an ice machine which you can access all throughout the day, plus of course the usual vending machines. Breakfast fare here is basic and Japanese, regularly have breads, Japanese triangular rice, potato or pasta salad, sausage, some days it has curry and white rice. And of course, coffee, orange juice and milk. Most Toyoki Inn's I heard has this type of breakfast except for the one I stayed in Osaka Namba which served Western breakfast.

Ladies get a free gift pack upon check-in with a few choices of toiletry stuff, e.g. wash cloth, hair clips, face mask. There are also other toiletries like shaver, comb available at the reception area for free. Night robes are available in a sanitation cabinet at the lobby area for guest use. You can just get one yourself before heading to the room.

The hotel also has a laundry room, this one had 3 sets of washer and dryer. 200 yen for wash and 100 yen for a 30-minute dry. And 30 yen for detergent. These are usually in use in the evenings, but I was lucky to get a free one the night I had to do some washing.

Hotel offers free wifi, which can sometimes be a bit limited (viber does not work here). They also have two workstations at the lobby if you need a laptop. They might have a printer too but not sure. They also have lots of maps and guides. Check out the flyers/brochures for some possible discount coupons to the attractions.

The reception staff were great, really helpful and friendly. One always had a smiling face and they were quite efficient in the check in and check out process.
