Having visited numerous Michelling star rated restaurants, I end up having the best experience at a small 1-man-run restaurant off the restaurant charts. Amoroso is the result of owner/chef Maeda-san's personal dream. After 20+ years as a somellier who enjoys making food, he apparently open Amoroso some 10 years ago. It seats maximum 12 guests and Maeda-san is doing the food, the servicing and even the dishes himself, and takes great interest in explaining each course as they are served for the intimate audience. A fixed 7-8 course tasting dinner prepared right in front of our table and paired with wines that creates great magic for the taste buds. With obvious affection for the Italian kitchen but with a nice touch of France and Spain as well, Really a magnificent evening at the very reasonable (for Tokyo standards almost cheap) of Yen 10,000 (SD 100) per head including drinks. . ..Challenge is to get a reservation. . .when we were there (October 5th) the next open weekend seats was middle of December. . . Its difficult to find even for experienced Taxi drivers so I do recommend to have your hotel print a map with the exact address. I am definitely going back. !
