I visited the sushi Zanmai Tsukiji main branch many years back. Even in the evening there was a long line waiting. Then I found it from its website that there was a branch in Shinjuku area.
The Sushi Zanmai Higashi (means east) Shinjuku branch is not located near the train station. It takes about 15 minutes to walk from Shinjuku station to there. Though it is not far away, some people might get lost on the way. If it were located near the station, it could not have offered such good sushi at such low price. And it opens 24/7.
I visited this branch at least once a year. Restaurant has the ground floor and basement. Ground floor is no-smoking and basement is smoking allowed. However, there is a corner on the ground floor where smoking is permitted.
During meal time there is always a line waiting, and you have to wait like 20-30 minutes. There are only about 30 seats on each floor. So be there a bit early or a bit late then you do not see the queue. The price is the same as in the Tsukiji main store and quality too. I ordered anything I like, Ikura, otoro, apuri toro, crab, etc, and it usually cost less than Yen 3,000 per person. I usually drink Japanese tea while eating sushi because I find drinking soft drink or beer would affect the taste bud for sushi.
I would not order fried chicken at a sushi restaurant. I would rather go to KFC for fried chicken.
Temaki (hand roll) offers better deal. Set of tuna, chuo toro and otoro are always the good deal to order. If you order sets of many sushi, make sure you eat those with seaweed first because the seaweed gets soft very quickly.
