“Ask for a non smoking room if you don't smoke”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

It is a great place to stay and a short walk from Shinjuku station, we got a taxi on arrival for ¥710. Hotel runs a shuttle bus every 20 minutes. Buffet breakfast available for ¥1000. Everything you would need in a decent size room with a view over the park. Make sure you ask for a non smoking room if you don't smoke!

Very handy good value mid range hotel. Quiet location opposite municipal park and only 10-15 min direct walk to buzzing colourful heart of Shinjuku, packed with everything you expect in Tokyo. 10 mins walk to govt building with free observatory on 45th floor. Handy frequent shuttle bus to Shinjuku station. Nice well-stocked room. Discount vouchers given for buffet breakfast with wide choice of Japanese and Western food (995 yen). Free wifi in lobby, we also had this in our room.

Das Shinjuku New City Hotel liegt wirklich sehr schön gelegen Shinjuku Central Park.
(Superior Twin room).

The Shinjuku New City Hotel is a excellent base to explore Tokyo. Directly in front of the Hotel is the Shinjuku Central Park which is especially beautiful during Hanami / Sakura (March / April) also not far from the Hotel is the Tokyo Govermental Building where you can visit the Observation Deck for free. The next Train stations are
Tochomae ( Tokyo Metro ) 5 minutes away
Shinjuku Station (JR Station) 10 minutes.
The Hotel offers a a Shuttle Service to the Shinjuku Station. This is really comfortable especially when you have a lot of baggage.
The Hotel itself seem to be a bit 80's Style. However that isn't a bad point at all because the Hotel is very clean. The Room was pretty spacy for japanese conditions. (Superior Twin Room) The only thing i was missing was a Safe. The Area around the Hotel becomes really quiet after 11PM. The Hotel offers a really good breakfast buffet for under 10$. Also directely next to the Hotel is a Chinese Restaurant.
After all i can absolutely recommend the Shinjuku New City Hotel.

Room Tip: If possible try to get a room with a view on the Park / Govermental Building, otherwise you will pro...

Stayed there for 10 nights, from 31st March 2013 and will definitely choose this hotel again. The shuttle bus service is very handy, especially when it's pouring rain and when you're exhausted from all the shopping! Although the rooms are tiny, they are very clean and the staff can speak English. Overall, I give it 9/10, not full marks because the mattress was too firm for my liking!

Although Shinjuku is not at the very centre of Tokyo it is just a few stops on the subway and I thought it a far nicer place to stay. The hotel is fronted by very friendly and polite staff who make every effort to make sure your stay is comfortable. We were on the 9th Floor of this big hotel and the room was big enough for 2 people. Bear in mind that space is at a premium but we were fine and I've stayed in much much smaller places for far more money.

It is ideally placed for good walks if that is what you like but there is also a shuttle bus that runs 3 times an hour from the hotel to Shinjuku station and from the station back to the hotel the same amount of times. This runs for 3 hours in the morning and about 6 hours in the afternoon and evening.

My friend and I stayed for 8 nights and I would happily go back there again if I returned to Tokyo.

Room Tip: Ask for a non smoking room if that's what you're after. The higher the floor the less noise...

Positive points - The Hotel is about 10 minutes walk from the Shinjuku station via the underpass which goes under all the roads and buildings and comes out just in front of the park, quick cut through brings you out in front of the Hotel. As the Shinjuku station is one, if not the busiest station in the World the Hotel is quite convenient to pick up most lines. The shuttle is handy but only runs limited hours and we found it quicker to use the underpass.Breakfast was basic but enjoyable rooms were comfortable.Wifi worked well for us.
Staff were friendly and spoke fairly good English.
Negatives- The Hotel is not 5 or 4 star; I'd give it 3 stars. We were told it's 30 years old and it is in need of updating. Our first room did not have any wardrobes or closets, the desk told us that there are only 3 rooms with wardrobes so as we were staying 4 nights we took a smoking room in order to get awardrobe. I notice another review mentioned that they had something stolen; fortunatly we didnt experience this but we did pop back to the room during cleaning and notice that the cleaners leave all the rooms ajar when cleaning, making it very easy for someone to go in and take something, so I would advise put your valuables out of sight and use the Hotel safe in the lobby.
Overall not the best Hotel we stayed in Japan but did the job. Rating of 3 is all I'd give until it's modernised. The rooms are spacious enough to put all conveniences in.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking park

This hotel is not within walking distance from Shunjuku station. Hotel offers shuttle buses to Shunjuku station, but it's operated during a certain period of time.

Rooms are generally clean but it's not a 5 star hotel. So you should expect that everything will be average. Also, Wifi connection can be unstable in some rooms, so you should check that first (each room has a LAN connection, so you can also bring a travel Wifi kit yourself and create a Wifi area in your room as well).

Good thing about this hotel is that it's right in front of the city hall and subway station. There are many restaurants and hotels around, so you can just walk and grab a bite in the area.

I saw some people complaining about homeless people in the part in front of the hotel, but I don't think it's a major issue. You can easily avoid going through the park, so it should not be that big of a problem.

In a nutshell, it's the best rate you probably get in the area, but expect average in all aspects.

Room Tip: I recommend that you request a room with a park view
