A nice & peaceful Shinto shrine in the middle of busy Shinjuku. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

This is a small shrine, which hosts an even smaller flea market on some Sunday mornings. If you have never seen a Japanese shrine before, then it may be of interest, but compared to (say) the Ikegami Honmomnji Temple complex at the South end of the Toei line, it's not really worth the visit.

This is a great Shinto shrine in eastern Shinkuju. It makes a great place to rest and take a break from the crowds and noise. Be warned however that it's location is misplaced on Lonely Planet maps which has it mixed up with yet another Shinto shrine a couple blocks away. Although the shrine they show is nice, the real Hanazono Shrine is actually on Tasukuni-dori one of the main drags.

It was very cool that it's accessible 24 hrs, and how it was located very close to the Golden Gai area, and surrounded by tall buildings.
We went there after dark so we couldn't get good picture, but certainly gave off a surreal atmosphere.

At the eastern edge of the rowdy Kabuki-cho neighbourhood this tranquil place of worship. Entry is free. A nice stop and worth the walk.
