Owner description: The tallest building in Shinjuku, TMG No. 1 offers sweeping views of Tokyo--all the way to Mt. Fuji on a clear day--from the 45th floor observatory.

Forget paying for a view of the city - Tokyo - and Mt Fuji. Go to the top of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office and from the top floor there is a magnificent observatory and cafe.
Highly recommended. A short work from Shinjuku Station - west gate.

The night time views from the top of the tower were excellent, although as had been said in a previous review the lights are on full blast and it does affect the view. The other downside is that 20% of the view (and from what i could glimpse through the partitions, the best views) can only be seen if you are in the restaurant.

However it was free and warm and a short walk from Shinjuku Station.

Dont go to the expensive towers but go to this FREE spot! Amazing view! Little hard to tind if you came from different side then front of the building, but just walk around it and you will see the big main entrance!

An excellent view of both Tokyo by day and night. Very quite when I visited but easily located, take the subway to Tochomae and come up exit A4, which is right at the base of the towers. The follow the green signs for observatory, depending on days they open either the south and north tower.

I am not sure what made me feel more queasy looking from the top or looking up from the bottom.

There are some tourist shops at the top and a café in one of the towers. They were open till 11pm. Unfortunately for night shots the lights reflect on the graph, so take a coat to cover the camera and lens. Saw Mt Fuji through the mist so on a clear day, it would be excellent.

They search the bags at the bottom of the lift.

Anyone and everyone would probably go to Shinjuku while in Tokyo. It would be well worthwhile to visit the Metropolitan Government Building which is a 15min subway walk from Shinjuku Station. Not only is the entrance free, but the views of the city are fantastic as well. There is no time restriction so you can wait for dusk to see the city lights if you are inclined. A must visit.
