It is great to be able to go up into the observatory and see a 360 view of Tokyo for FREE. There is a restaurant and a gift shop. Recommended especially if you are in the area.

Here you have a recommanded in all the reviews a total view of Tokyo. And that's for FREE! In July they are renovating one lift, so there is only one available what can cause some delays!

We had already been to the Skytree but decided to visit the viewing levels here whilst exploring Shinjuku - I actually preferred these views to the skytree and these platforms are free (great for those on a budget). We went up the South Tower (which is meant to have better views but closes at 17.30). Would definitely recommend doing.

You can go up to the North or South Observatory above to see views of the city. And it's free. People say the South Observatory has slightly better views. I read it saying South Observatory closes at 5:30pm and North opens until late, I think until 9-10pm. But we found out that schedules vary on which observatory is open on which day, or at least in June. We were lucky the South Observatory was open that day it was already pass 6pm when we went. Unfortunately, it was cloudy and hazy so we could not really see that far.

The building in itself is a nice one, and there is a garden at the back which you can walk around and just sit an enjoy a rest.
