ibis Tokyo Shinjuku
Ranked #14 of 84 Hotels / Ryokan in Shinjuku
Reviewed April 15, 2013

I stayed at the Ibis Shinjuku hotel for five nights in a double bed non smoking room. Room is small and not much decorated with a small window but is very clean. Bathroom is fine and a perfect match with a bath tub where you can soak with hot water after a tiring day. I love this the most. Bath gel, shampoo and conditioner are all Shizedo with decent supply of razor and toothbrush.

Small fridge is provided with free tea and coffee facilities. Bottle beer, water and other selection of drinks can be selected from a machine outside the room with market price. Wifi is free and can be accessed from everywhere in the hotel including your rooms.

The hotel is only 3-5 min walk from metro and Shinjuku JR station. Lots of department stores (e.g. Odakyu, Lumin, Isetan, Takashiyama), small and large convenient store of every brand (7-11, Family Mart, Lawson, etc.) are nearby, with McDonald just downstairs. Typical japanese restaurants where japanese eat, franchised restaurants, western style restaurant or indeed every kind of restaurant can be reached within 1-10 minutes walk. Yadobashi and Bic Camera are 5 mins away.

One point to consider for sleep quality, the noise from street traffic is quite annoying if you open the window, especially when no cooling is available during April.

Whatelse do you want from this great value hotel? Very polite and smiling staff who can communicate in English, a small bar, 2 elevators even a spa, of course, no fitness or restautant but I cannot think of any hotel that can provide everything better than this small Ibis in one of the most busiest area in the world.

Room Tip: non smoking, double bed room seem to provide you more space.

Just a few steps from the gigantic Shinjuku station, Ibis is a good hotel alternative. Rooms are decent size by Tokyo standard, so you can actually unpackyour suitcase without falling over stuff. Room and lobby is tidy and modern. There can be some noice in some roome, more from fans outside than traffic - except police cars in the bustling Shinjuku district. Hard to regulate air temp in room. Decent breakfast for 1000 yen. And great croissants!

This isn't the classiest of hotels, but it certainly is a good option for visiting Tokyo. Small room, but great location. Also pretty quiet considering it is on a busy street.

Good service, average breakfast.

I had a hard time finding the hotel - you have to make sure you're on the right floor (one above the subway entrance level) as you exit the west exit of the Shinjuku Station.

Wonderful. We would be happy to return again.
Besides free wifi in the foyer, it has a laundry which made our life a dream with 2 small kids. i also really used the ice machine and vending machines with an enormous range of drinks.
It is so well located to restaurant, shops station and even a temple where we experience our first cherry blossom.
The desk staff is just the best. They had good English and nothing was too much trouble. They had a 15minute policy which is time undertaking they make to solve your problems.
The windows open which is a blessing as there were no air conditioning. Even in late March, you couldn't breathe in the room without opening the windows as the rooms were small.
However, we had trouble finding it from Shinjuku station as we had a lot of suit cases.
There was a lift in the station but was not operational until a certain time.
Eventually, after 2 hours, (we decided to have lunch first) we manage to find where we had to go and by then the lift was operational. Not reading Japanese, we did not understand the sign. We travelled with my daughter and her 2 children, a 4 year old and a 7 week baby. So it was difficult. However, inspite of having maps printed from the Internet, it wasn't enough to help us very much. We read carefully the comments from tripadvisor and we got 2 very useful hints. 1. Take the West exit. 2. Go inside the building to take the escalator up to reception.
Now that we know how close the hotel is, a clear map directing pedestrians to:
1. Exit Shinjuku on the West exit
2. Get the lift to the street level ( operation hours) or stairs if not too unencumbered.
3. Walk towards north direction along the railway ( I think that's right)
4. Look for the IBIS building on your left (building no.10) which has Macdonalds on the ground floor. (Japan does not use street names) the first # in the address is the general area, the second number is the building. If you ask directions, you will be asked 'which building'
5. Walk into the building and take EITHER the elevator or the escalator (sometimes the escalator if switched to going down.
I found comments in tripadvisors really helpful and have used this website for 20 years.

Room Tip: The upper levels have more light. But I think they give the high rooms to the smokers. The lower l...

A fabulous location and extremely helpful staff made our stay fantastic. The hotel is so handy to all railway stations and good walking distance to main attractions, parks and shrines. Cherry blossom season was terrific. We would recommend to anyone.

For single user, I recommend double bed room ( it is queen size bed ) because it looks spacious and more comfortable. I retrieved room from usage of Thai airway miles with free of charge.

Free wifi is available at Lobby and I stay at 3rd floor that can also connect. Coin water and ice machines situate in each floor too. In the room has a vacant refrigerator for storaging my fruits and macarons. However, adaptor for various plugs was not provided in room.

Toilet room is clean, small as japanese style however I can adapt quickly and enjoy. Odor was cleared a few minutes after opening the new ventilator. Full toiletries with Shisedo brandname.

Air conditioner is heater. I select low level and did not cover myself with blanket thus bed is soft enough to sleep well.

Location
:-Ibis Shinjuku is one of the best place to stay in Tokyo for traveling. Because it is situate closed to 3 major rail: JR, Toei, Metro, Narita express
- but should spare time for backing to NRT (1.30) +/-30 minute.
- 3 convenient store around the corner, 24 hour Mcdonald and drug store at 1st floor.

Breakfast : I was given as compliment for changing room as requested by hotel staff, but it was so ordinary .

Conclusion : Ibis hotel shinjuku is one of best hotel in term of location however please spare time in order to go back Narita airport by NEX. at least 2 hour.

The hallways were dark and gloomy which made the hotel feel a bit old and run down and did not match the rooms. However, the room was well lit, nicely decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom facilities were also somewhat dated and did not match the room. The location was excellent. The nightlife of the area is great and is only a few blocks down the road. It was about 5 minutes walk to JR Shinjuku Station and the subway was across the road from the hotel. It is also located above a McDonald's, convenience store and pharmacy. I wouldn't recommend the breakfast. There was very much choice. I may stay here again but I would like to check what else is available for about the same price.
