“A well managed hotel”
Reviewed November 4, 2009

At its price point, this hotel certainly delivers and does what it does very well. Pre arrival exchanges were efficiently dealt with, all services encountered at the hotel were also efficient and friendly. Bedrooms (I had a refurbished view room) were comfortable, clean and well designed. Room service of just a club sandwich was elegantly presented with full trolley service. The complimentary breakfast for Gold Passport members was very DIY but all this particular guest required. (For several guests it seemed an ideal way to stock up on pastries for lunch!) However, for me, the highlight of the stay was a lunch visit to the restaurant Cuisine(s) Michel Troisgros where the wonderful food was matched by utterly charming and friendly service from Lebbad Nourry.

The reception was excellent and they accepted us at 12.30 which, I am sure, will be before their published time. If management reads this review I would like them to know that they generated a lot of good will by that simple action.
We stayed for four nights on a special offer from Hyatt's own web site. Our room was quite large and well/tastefully furnished with a dressing table/working surface, a table and 2 chairs (one swing). There were tea and coffee facilities, a mini-bar, a safe, a very large TV, good lighting and a powered window blind - that was new to me! The air-conditioning was an example for others - it actually worked and the controls were easy to operate. The bathroom was superb with a stand-alone shower, good toiletries and the ubiqiutous Japanese heated toilet seat. The shaver point had a thoughtful touch in offering a European connection point. Somebody had put some thought into it all!
The concierge were excellent - never less than two on duty, they all spoke very good English and went out their way to be helpful. The overall service of the hotel was personified by the cashier who most willingly broke down for me a 10,000 yen note into something more manageable. Thank you for that. How many hotels have I been in who have done this only grudgingly?
We were "Gold Passport" members and were served complementary croissants, pastries and coffee at breakfast time. The "Passport" also allowed my wife free access to the swimming pool - Japanese hotels commonly charge for this. There is a free shuttle bus every 20 minutes to (and from) Shinjuku Station which is an extremely useful service, especially in the rain.
The hotel's situation is good, near to Shinjuku Station and it's fleshpots and also only about 5 minutes from several restaurants - just the other side of the Gov Buildings opposite the hotel (you can't miss them!). The hotel is also very close to two major underground lines which opens up the rest of Tokyo to you.
We only sampled the food once, on the night of our arrival. We were served 2 very good club sandwiches in the bar which were nice but very expensive - almost 6,000 yen for them plus two small bottles of lager is expensive by any reasonable standard! This takes me to the only significant criticism that I have. The main bar is awful, dark and uninviting. The lighting is so subdued that you hardly see the person next to you! Come on, Management - get it lit properly.
Nevertheless overall I was really impressed by this hotel in all the various aspects of providing hotel sccommodation. I would certainly recommend it.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 2-day periods in October.

The service was great from all staff, including a great introduction to our room's facilities on the first day we stayed there. A high proportion of staff speak English very well.

We were in a King Room both times, one which faced the Government Building next door (some view, but majority is skyscrapers) and the other which faced Mount Fuji, which we were lucky enough to see when we woke early one morning. The room size was great for a Japanese hotel, with toilet separate from the rest of the bathroom.

Note that there is a charge to use the pool / gym unless you are a hyatt gold passport member or get a great internet deal. Another guest staying at the same time as us was asked to wear a rash-vest while swimming as he had a tattoo.

We tried the buffet Breakfast, which had a short wait for a table, but otherwise was at the standard expected of a Hyatt. There is also a Japanese breakfast cafe, however we did not get a chance to try this. The bakery had a variety of Asian Bakery items, which are great quality and reasonable prices.

If you are staying on a weekend, keep an eye out for lobby weddings - where Japanese couples can have a western wedding in the Lobby area. Added bonus is the lifts on one side of the buildling provide a great view of Tokyo City. The view from the pool is pretty great too.

Practicalities: The shuttle bus leaves from the West Exit of Shinjuku Station (stop 35, near Bic Camera) at 10, 30 and 50 past each hour, or a taxi to the hotel is only Y710.

I got enough points to get 4 nights for free here and I booked 2 extra nights for a great deal on their website. The hotel has a complimentary shuttle that leaves every 20 mins to Shinjuku station! We used it a lot esp after a day exploring Tokyo and how tired we are. Another good thing was the Tochomae station was right below the hotel and we took the E line to many places also right accross the street is the M line. It was such a convenient location! Okay so the room was really nice and clean - free internet I loved that since we brought our netbook with us! the bathroom was nice and modern so was the decor. Since we were a honeymoon couple they had complimentary mini wine bottle for us and a nice note! Staff here was great!! Gave us great directions!! We tried the cafe downstairs once too since we were so hungry and didnt want to eat by the station and it was late. Decent italian american food but of course the bill came out to $40 something but it was good. Oh how can i forget if you are a Gold passport member they have free coffee/tea and pastries every morning for you which was a nice touch!

I went to the spa which was phenomenal!! okay def worth the $170 i spent including tip and tax. They have a really nice spa plus after your treatment is done you get to sit out by the huge windows and look out the city view and enjoy some refreshments like soup, pastries and dessert. It was awesome!! They have a nice pool and jacuzzi as well. Definitely will stay here again because of the location, nice rooms and wonderful staff!

Though the Japanese seem to place value in providing wonderful service, the employees of this hotel went above and beyond our expectations. A complimentary shuttle runs to the Shinjuku station, and though I received some extra perks as a gold passport member, I would imagine the service is equal for all visitors. The lobby is stunning, and a 5-course meal in the newly-remodeled cafe was wonderful and included 2 hours of complimentary cocktails, making it an incredible value in the most expensive city in the world. Our room had a great view and was fairly large by Japanese standards, with a large, clean bathroom. We would stay there again and again given the opportunity!
