My partner and I stayed in Tokyo for 7 nights, and wanted to stay somewhere... but without the expense of a Hilton or Hyatt brand hotel. This was it! We got a discount because we stayed for more than 5 nights... and we couldn't have been happier withthe experience.

We stayed in a "Plaza Premier" room which, acording to others who have stayed at the hotel, is the way to go. The room was clean, had a great view to the south, and was very modern, with many amenities.

The staff were a delight to deal with. Whilst I knew some Japanese, they made every effort to speak English, and it was evident they enjoyed the challenge of helping a foreigner.

Whilst the hotel restaurants are quite pricey, there are a number of cheap eateries down the street which make getting a meal easy. There is also a post office across the way, and a number of convenience stores around the corner.

Although the hotel appears to be on top of Shinjuku station, it is about a 10-15 minute walk to the actual train platforms. Keep this in mind if you've got lots of luggage!

Whilst it was quite wet and cold while we were there, the experience was fantastic. I wil stay at the Keio Plaza again for my next trip to Tokyo.

The Keio Plaza has a great location, close to the Shinshuku station.
The rooms are nice, large for a japanese Hotel.
Different restaurants for every tase are on the premises.
The only downside I did realize during all my stays there in the last few years (at least 4 stays) is the strict enforcement of the check-in time 2pm.
It is extremly bad to arrive after a 12 hours red-eye flight in the morning and then to hear "you need to wait for 3 hours!"
I can't believe it is the availability of the rooms, it's simple lack of felxibility.

Dear Loisl57,

First of all, we appreciate all the positive remarks you have made in regard to our hotel. We do, however, apologize for any inconvenience caused you in having to wait to be checked in. Although our check in time is 2:00 pm, we do our best to try and arrange rooms for those guests arriving earlier. There are times when we are unable to offer an early check in to the guest, especially if the occupancy the day before is high.

Since more midnight flights will be arriving at Haneda Airport from this autumn, our hotel will do all we can to have rooms available as soon as possible after guest arrival. We kindly ask that you give us another opportunity to accommodate you whenever a future visit to Tokyo is in your plans. We will surely do our best to change your opinion of our property.

Thank you again for your patronage and again we are very sorry for all the inconvenience caused you during your stay with us.

With warmest regards,
Hotel Management

The hotel looked good at the first sight. Hotel boys were very helpful and took our bags straight away and even helped us book the tickets for the coach to the airport. When we came in I saw a man arguing with receptionist and asking for the main manager and then I thought something is wrong. We arrived at about 23:00 and after 11 hr flight we just wanted to go to bed, but we were told that the room with queen bed booked by me 1,5 month before arrival isn not available as they are fully booked. Hello?!! We paid extra for a big bed and now they tell us to sleep on two separate ones. I noticed one guy next to me talking to other receptionist about getting different room for some reason. After 20 mins, we were told that we will get 'better' room than the one booked by us. "Remember, this room is better than the one you paid for", I'm sorry but it wasn't our fault that they didn't have our room available - I paid in advance!. The room was ok, for them it was a 5star apartment but after seeing hotels in Sydney and Melbourne this one was small size and not a proper apartment but it had double bed. And the condition wasn't 5 star as well. It looked new but there was a big stain on the carpet in the middle of the room so I don't know why hotel boy insisted on wearing sleepers all the time. The good thing was a heated toilet seat and the room was clean excl. stain. We were waiting 30 min for the bags because someone just forgot about them and theyre brought after my phone call. This is what tired people need after a long flight. So maybe hotel wasn't that bad after all but next time I will book something else.
P.S Restaurant was good and served us sandwiches after midnight, and they even took the crust off.

Dear A555,

First of all, we at the Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo want to extend our sincere appreciation for your staying with us in March of last year (2009) and do apologize for the very belated reply to your comments in regard to unavailability of room when attempting to check in after your late night arrival.

We are greatly embarrassed and discouraged that the room category you had reserved (and paid for) well in advance was sold out. It is with regret that you had to wait for another type of room even though you were tired after a long flight to Tokyo. There is certainly no excuse for the unfortunate error on our part and not being able to satisfy your accommodation needs. We trust that this untimely incident did not, in any way, ruin your stay in Tokyo.

In spite of the problems you encountered when being assigned a guest room, we kindly ask that you give us another opportunity to accommodate you whenever a future visit to Tokyo is in your plans. We will surely do our best to change your opinion of our property.

Thank you again for your patronage and again we are very sorry for all the inconvenience caused you during your March/2009 stay with us.

With warmest regards,

The Keio Plaza hotel is in a good location right near the station.
The staff are really friendly and helpful. There are lots of (expensive) restaurants at the hotel. Rooms are big and beds are hard but comfortable.

The rooftop pool wasn't open when I was there but I'm sure it's great...

we origonally booked a premier room at this hotel with a king bed through the thomas cook web site, but on arrival we were given 2 double beds instead. The room was very nice with remote control blackout blinds and lots of posh and brand new stuff, but i complained about the bed situation and was upgraded to a suite instead. The suite was very large with great views over the city but it was a little old and tired, they did advise me of this and show me the room before the move, so no complaints there.
We tried to check in when we arrived in Shinjuku at 11am, but were sent away as the room was not due to be ready until check in time. We had just got off a very long flight and i was a little upset at this, but you have to remember that being on time is very important in Japan and the thought of not doing things when planned is unacceptable to them.
The hotel was pretty much in the center of the city district without being too noisy. It was just a few mins walk to all the shops and entertainment, i believe prob the closest available.
The fitness suite was very good as was the choice of restaurants, if a little expensive - we paid over £10 for a small glass of beer, but we knew it was going to be expensive before we went.
We also took advantage of the free Disney shuttle bus service they run to the parks which are about 45 mins away. We did make the mistake of getting the first bus which ment we arrived at *am and the park didnt open til 10, so check the opening times before you go.
Overall, we found the Keio to be decent value for money, great location with good facilities tat you would expect in Japan.

After a one week stay I can say: I'd definitely book this hotel next trip to Tokyo; excellent room service; really good breakfast buffet in a very pleasant setting; never had to wait for an elevator; fast, free in-room internet connection; clean, clean, clean; perfect and quiet housekeeping; extremely helpful front desk and staff; best location; great views; quiet; beautiful bathroom with amazing shower water pressure and plenty of complimentary amenities; terry robes plus cotton kimonos and cotton pj's.

Could only be better if the swimming pool had been open (opens late June), one could linger after breakfast (asked to leave at 10 am when breakfast service is over), there were a few more sitting areas in the lobby, if local phone calls were free and if one of the many restaurants in the hotel were more inviting and had simple, reasonably priced food.

We chose Keio Plaza after reading some not-so-good reviews about the hotel our agent had booked us into. The hotel has everything you could need, and you could literally have every need attended to and not leave the hotel - theres room service, a pool, a number of restaurants, bars, shopping, and our floor even had a medical centre on it. All of the staff spoke excellent English, and were efficient and friendly. The room was very comfortable and quite big - one of the largest we stayed in during our trip. Breakfast was quiet good as well, and we were suprised to get the best coffee on our trip at Keio Plaza (a big call after just being in italy).
A tip for Tokyo is that even though its a modern city, it is largely a cash economy and ATMs with the option to change the language are hard to find. If you can get Yen beforehand, it can save a bit of stress!
