“Hard to find and not clean”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

I booked this hotel after reading the good reviews on TripAdvisor, but after staying there I don't have much to say except for its proximity to Shinjuku station. Even so, it was incredibly difficult to find and we had to haul our luggage up and down a lot of stairs. Many of the locals did not know where it was either.

Compared to hotels in Hiratsuka and Yokohama, the room is tiny. It would have been alright except the room is not as clean as other Japanese hotels. There was dust in the shelves, some orange stains in the bathroom and weird crusty brown stuff in the water boiler. The water boiler itself turned out to be missing the stand underneath to boil the water. But, the lack of cleanliness made it rather uncomfortable to stay in.

There is a small supermarket and an underground shopping mall underneath. The closest convenience store is a 7-Eleven, but it also rather small.

I heard from my colleagues that the Hyatt in Shinjuku is a much better hotel at the same price. I will try staying there next time.

Nice, clean room, helpful staff.
Short walk to transportation to other areas of Tokyo
Very nice bar, good beverages.
Did not try restaurant so have no opinion of in-house food or service.
Hotel is close (walking distance) to variety of restaurants and night life.

I don't have a lot of experience to compare this to recently, as far as hotels in Japan go, but I will say that the location, at least is fantastic. I just read that someone else posted that it was near the red light district- I really should have done more research. Haha!

First impressions: Clean. Small (but actually very cozy). Slight smell in my room. Fair price.

The first, first impression was that the room was small, but now that I have been here for a night, I actually like it a lot. It's very cozy. Second impression was that there was a slight smell- almost smelled like body odor. In fairness, it could have been wafting from me. :) But I don't think so. The smell wasn't overpowering and it didn't turn me off from the room, but it was noticeable. The bathroom was clean and the shower and toilet worked great.

I had to pay 500 yen for wi-fi, which had to be installed by staff that came up to my room about 5-10 minutes after I called for it. Worked like a charm. I could have sworn I read that it was free- but I'm only staying one night, so that could be why...?

I won't discuss location as everyone else already has. It's great. Perfect, really.

Staff have thus far been great. My floor (14th) was a bit loud- not sure what the girls outside were doing/talking about but it lasted a while from about 11pm-12am.

Can't get any closer if you wanna stay in the center of the red light area. Kabukicho, notoriously known for men wildest dream escapade is just a stone away when you stay in this hotel. There are many hostess clubs, love hotels, shops, restaurants, and nightclubs. The area has many movie theaters, and is located near Shinjuku Station, Seibu Shinjuku Station, and several other major railway and subway stations. Don't get me wrong, it's a hotel suitable for family with young children too becoz when night falls, it's when the real activities start. The beauty of this hotel is, if you got kids, you can straight sneak out to their subway via their shopping mall so your kids won't see the red light area at all. The hotel facade is not that fantastic what more their lobby area but once when you step into their tiny room, you're at full comfort. Yes, it was tiny and even the bathroom is like a cruise ship toilet. Small but comfortable. Room is neat and clean. Bed is soft. Toiletries are provided. You can fill up hot water with their kettle at your floor lift lobby. Vending machine for drinks and snacks also can be found there. It's so convenience. If you forgotten your pajamas, fret not coz they provide one, japanese version that is. There's also flat screen tv although I can only find japanese channel.
Breakfast was simple. Not many items but nice nonetheless. You can even take away their coffee while walking to the subway stations. Staffs of the hotel are friendly. Everyday the housekeeper will make my room. Everyday they will replenish the toiletries. The security guards will greet you always. There are some tour packages offered at the hotel if you want. Basically, I will recommend others and I will stay here again.

I stay at the Shinjuku Prince every chance I get. The rooms are average size (for Japan), clean, and the beds are comfortable. It is very close to a train station (Seibu-Shinjuku) and about a 10 minute walk to a huge train station (JR Shinjuku). The hotel staff are always friendly, and the rooms are a decent price. I stay at this hotel every time I'm in the city, and am pleased every single time.

I recently stayed at Shinjuku Prince for a weekend trip to Tokyo. The staff were pretty dour but were able to take of the basics without any problems. I was on a fairly high floor so I was lucky enough to have a sweeping view of Tokyo, and didn't hear any noise from below.

Yes, the rooms are cramped, but for the price I thought it was good value for the city. But as others have pointed out, the main draw of this hotel is its location. You are close to many nearby sites worth seeing in Shinjuku - the red light district is literally across the street, and "Memory Lane" is right around the corner. There is also a large Metro hub station nearby so it is easy to get pretty much anywhere you'd like in the city.

I'd definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Try to get a higher floor for the view and less noise from the street. If you're concerned about...
