Shinjuku Prince Hotel
Ranked #13 of 84 Hotels / Ryokan in Shinjuku
Reviewed December 30, 2012

Good quality hotel in a great location to base yourself and explore Tokyo. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from Shinjuku station. Shinjuku station is enormous and I found heading to the east exit (clearly marked) was the best way to get to the hotel.

The room was small but was comfortable, clean and contained everything that I required. I was travelling alone and the lack of space was fine but couples travelling with a few suitcases may have an issue with the compact nature of the room.

The staff were helpful (everyone in Japan is) although the english skills amongst staff varied considerably. Due to booking last minute I ended up in a smoking room however the only time I ever smelt it was in the hallway.

For the price I paid to stay here I felt like I got a very good deal, especially for Tokyo. I would happily stay again when I am in Tokyo.

Rooms are so compact, but pretty average for Tokyo. Rooms are clean and beds are comfy. We had 2 twin room side by side and we never heard a noise from our kids next door. There was a nasty smell in the bathroom. We found it easier if only one person moved about at a time :) This hotel is right in the thick of it and out the window was a giant neon sign which flashes red and white, and very close to another giant screen with music videos which played very loud, I worried about being able to sleep with all this but they do turn it off at some stage during the night. Wifi was 500 yen per day in the room which we thought was worth it. Although the hotel is a block from Shinjuku Station depending on what exit you take it's easy to get lost. 3.5 million people travel through this station per day and I think we managed to annoy about a million of them. We didn't eat at the hotel, cheap eateries everywhere, good coffee from cafe under the hotel beside the steps into Pepe.

Nice hotel in a very good location next to Shinjuku train station. The room is quite small, however that is common for Tokyo hotels. The room was in great condition, clean and with all necessary amenities. Great value and a pleasant experience.

The hotel is located in the heart of the fashionable Shinjuku district and close to subway and railway stations.
The personel is not very fluent in English - so it took time for them to understand that I would like to book a table at the restaurant.
What disappointed the most is the size of rooms - they are very small. And when I say "very small" I mean it, but maybe it is typical for Japan. Also it's quite noisy in the rooms as the railway is very near to the hotel.

I guess no need to comment on Location as everybody was rated it excellent. Yes, it is. Shinjuku station just not far away and there are a lots of subway exit nearby. Seibu subway station is just located inside the building. Pepe is a shopping centre operate by the hotel group where you can spend your time there. Kabukicho (the red light district of Tokyo) is just opposite of the hotel. By crossing one street, you can found a lot of adult entertainment shops. That area is crowded at night and it is very happening. For those (guys) who would like to try some NEW experience that offer by Japanese girl, you can hang around there from 6pm to midnight. Besides, shopping centre is surrounding Shinjuku Station. Takashimaya Times Square, Labi, BIC Camera, Yodobashi, etc. Tons of restaurants and convenient store located around hotel, food price here is cheaper.

Room Tip: Highly recommend you pick a deluxe room, its really worth it. High Floor is also recommended, East s...

Read a bunch of reviews about rooms being small, so we went for the more expensive deluxe room, which was a much bigger room. The first room they gave us stank of cigarettes, and they switched us to a non-smoking floor which was MUCH better. So make sure to request non-smoking floor if you do not smoke. We paid for in room wifi for 1000yen a day, it worked perfect and speed was fast. The room itself was nice and clean, but the hotel itself seemed a bit dated. Our room was on the twenty something floor, and we had an amazing view.
Location was the best part of the hotel. Walking distance to everything. If you are taking the Narita Express to the Shinjuku station, it will be a long and difficult walk if you are hauling big luggage, trying to navigate among the giant crowd. But if you are just strolling, it won't be a problem at all.

Room Tip: non-smoking floors if you are not a smoker

A friend and I booked a twin room here due to its extremely central location and reasonable price for that privilege. The hotel is about 5 mins walk from Shinjuku station depending on what exit you leave from (Shinjuku station is HUGE) and the main shopping and eating areas of Shinjuku are literally right outside the hotel doors.

The room was very small, with only just enough room to walk between the bed once we has our suitcases in there. The bathroom was also tiny but very clean and tidy.

Staff were generally friendly and helpful. Only one of 5 staff members we interacted with was unable to have a fluent English conversation, and that was a new trainee staff member.

Although the room was tiny and the price was fairly high for what you get, the location makes up for all that and makes this a decent place to stay if you want to be in the heart of Shinjuku without worrying about catching the subway to get places.
